Students work hard day and night for JEE preparation but sometimes due to some mistakes their application form get cancelled or they don’t know the requirements for appearing in JEE. In this article we bring to you some frequently asked questions related to JEE Main 2017.

Questions related to Computer Based Examination and Center Allocation:

Question 1:

If a candidate forgets to book his session for online exam, how will he get information about the date and session of the examination?

Answer:

If a candidate fails to make any selection, slot will be assigned randomly to the respective candidates as per the availability of the same; details are provided on page no.11 of information bulletin. Candidates can check the details of session and slot through the admit card which will be available to download from March 1st, 2017.

Question 2:

Is there any provision for students willing to attend for both the exams at different exam centers i.e. Paper -1 as Computer based (CBT) and Paper -2 as Pen and Paper based.

Answer:

As Paper-II is available in Pen & Paper mode only hence candidates have to select the center that has provision for both modes. Appendix-2 of information bulletin contains the list of all such centers. Different Roll number or separate admit card will not be issued to any candidates who are willing to appear in both papers.

For example: PATNA: Candidates can choose the center if they wish to appear in both paper, Pen & Paper Based and Computer Based.

Questions related to Eligibility for appearing in JEE Main-2017:

Question 1:

What is the Eligibility Criteria for private candidates?

Answer:

As per Information Bulletin: The candidates who have cleared their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying exam in 2015 or 2016; or the candidates who are ppearing in their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying exam in 2017 are eligible to appear in JEE MAIN-2017. Candidates who cleared Class 12th/Qualifying examination in 2014 or before as well as those who will appear in such examination in 2018 or later are not eligible to appear in JEE MAIN-2017. Candidates who appeared in class 12th/equivalent Qualifying Examinations in 2014, did not qualify in 2014, but go through in 2015 are also not eligible to appear in JEE MAIN-2017.

Above criteria is applicable for both private and regular candidates. Private candidate can fill ‘xxx’ against the school name column.

Question 2:

What are Eligibility norms for Diploma Students in JEE MAIN-2017?

Answer:

Diploma holders can apply for JEE Main 2017. In order to appear in JEE Advanced, their JEE MAIN scores and rank will not be declared as diploma holders cannot apply for admission in NITs and CFTIs through JEE MAIN channel.

Question 4:

What are HSC vocational courses?

Answer:

Various states have different HSC vocational courses, so students of different states will have to verify it from their particular state.

Questions related to Online Application Format:

Question 1:

If a candidate has passed in 2015 and has appeared for improvement in 2016 and is again going for improvement in 2017, what he will fill in the academic details section.

Answer:

In this case, he/she will fill in as under:

  • Year of Passing 12th / Qualifying Examination : 2015
  • Roll Number of either year: 2015/2016 (as per candidate’s wish)
  • Percentage of same year as the roll number mentioned: 2015/2016
  • Appearing for Improvement of Class 12th/ Intermediate/ Qualifying Exam: YES

Further it is mentioned in the JEE MAIN-2017 Information Bulletin that the marks of Class 12th/Intermediate/Equivalent qualifying exam will be uploaded on the website of JEE (Main) in the 2nd week of June 2017. The candidates will have to verify these marks and confirm on the website. In case of any issues, the candidate should upload the copy of the mark-sheet online only latest by June 25th, 2017 on JEE MAIN website.
During this period i.e. after the declaration of result of qualifying examination, the candidate can update their appeal to consider the total marks of a mark-sheet having greater marks out of the mark-sheet of passing year or improvement year.

Question 2:

Which thumb impression should be uploaded while filling JEE MAIN-2017 form?

Answer:

Boys have to upload left hand thumb whereas girls have to upload right hand thumb however in case of wrong thumb impression is uploaded, the candidates have to apply the same thumb impression on the attendance sheet during exam.

Question 3:

If a candidate forgets to mention his/her name on the Photograph, would the form be rejected?

Answer:

No the form will not be rejected if it doesn’t have the Name of the candidate and date on which the photograph is taken and no correction is required in such a case.

Question 4:

How will an NRI or a foreign student enters his/her mobile number?

Answer:

Such candidates can enter the mobile number against the field of landline number.

Difference between JEE Main and JEE Advanced Syllabus

Questions related to Correction in online application:

Question 1:

Will a candidate have a option to amend the mode of examination?

Answer:

Yes, but a candidate can switch mode of examination from pen and paper examination to computer based examination only.

Question 2:

What mistakes cannot be corrected when the corrections will be allowed by the Board?

Answer:

Change in exam center, mode of exam from computer based to pen and paper based and change in date of computer based exam will not be normally allowed.

Questions related to Fee Transaction:

Question 1:

While fee payment, what a candidate can do if transaction failed?

Answer:

Always use internet explorer 6 or higher version to upload form in order to avoid problems. If any case, candidates will not receive the payment status of online transaction (by credit/debit card) is not communicated in real time then fee payment is not accomplished. Candidates have to fill the application fee again through online transaction or by e- challan in order to generate acknowledgement page. If the amount gets debited then it will refunded back within 07 to 10 days.

Miscellaneous Questions:

Question 1:

Whether the Hindi Medium paper will come in both the languages?

Answer:

Yes, Hindi medium paper will be bilingual in English and Hindi medium.

Question 2:

Is Aadhar Card mandatory for filling the application form?

Answer:

Yes, it is necessary to enter the Aadhar card number in the application form.

Question 3:

How can Assam, J&K and Meghalaya candidates apply, having no Aadhar card?

Answer:

Just they have to enter passport number, ration card number, bank account number number or any other valid Govt. identity number.

Question 4:

My name in Aadhar card is not exactly similar or not in same pattern as in school records. Which name I have to enter? Will it create problem later on?

Answer:

Such candidate have to enter the name which is written in the passing certificate of 10th class and should submit a correction request to Aadhar centre and apply for JEE Main by entering 14 digits Aadhar Enrolment ID printed on the slip that is being issued by Aadhar centre after submitting updation request.

Question 5:

What if a candidate has no thumb?

Answer:

He/She can upload impression of finger or foot thumb also and same should be applied on the attendance sheet during examination.

Question 6:

Is there any sample papers for offline exams?

Answer:

The mock test provided on the official website is for all the candidates who have selected either for computer based mode or pen and paper based mode. However, previous year questions are uploaded on the JEE MAIN website for practice and also offers the feel and look of Computer Based Examination (CBE)

Question 7:

Whether candidates appeared for Paper-2 will be eligible for admission to B.Arch in IFs?

Answer:

Paper-2 of the JEE Main is for the B.Arch and B.Planning. The candidates who appeared in paper-2 will be eligible for admission to NITs/SPAs and other CFTIs where B.Arch is available.

Question 1:

What is Computer Based Exam (Online mode)?

Answer:

Computer Based Exam will be conducted by using the Local Area Network (LAN) to make it more secure, safe and un-interrupted.

Question 2:

What are the benefits of Computer Based Examination?

Answer:

Computer based exam has following listed benefits:

  • The candidate can review or re-answer any question at any point of time during the examination.
  • The candidate can change the option of the answer during the exam duration and it is one of the most important feature of computer based examination
  • The candidate also has the option to mark any answer for review at later stage during the examination.
  • There will be a panel on computer screen showing all the question numbers in different colour scheme which will indicate which questions are answered, left unanswered and marked for review
  • Candidate can choose exam date as per his/her convenience.
  • It is used to enhance the confidence of the candidates while using Information technology.
  • With comparison to Pen/Paper mode, Exam Fee upto Rs. 500 will be saved.

Question 3:

What is the last date for sending online application for computer based exam and its procedure?

Answer:

Candidates have to apply online on or before 2nd January 2017 through JEE (Main) website.

Is Computer Based Exam based on Internet?

Answer:

No

When will the Computer Based Examination held?

Answer:

The examination is scheduled to be conducted on April 8th & 9th, 2017.

Question 6:

When a candidate can select the date of computer based examination?

Answer:

At the time of submitting the form for JEE (Main) itself.

Question 7:

What will be the time schedule of computer based exam?

Answer:

The examination will be in two shifts i.e.

  • First shift from 09.30 – 12.30 Hours [IST]
  • Second shift (if required) from 14.00 – 17.00 Hours [IST]

Question 8:

When will a candidate has to report at exam centre?

Answer:

Before 30 minutes from the exam time.

Question 9:

What a candidate must know about computer in order to appear for Computer Based Examination?

Answer:

The candidate must be aware about how to use computer mouse.

Question 10:

Is there any provision to change the exam date after submitting form?

Answer:

No

The Candidate can opt for city of his/her choice as per list of computer based exam cities at the time of filling application form only

Question 13:

Is the Computer Based Test is secure?

Answer:

It is very secure with zero error possibility as human intervention is minimal.

Question 14:

Is there any practice test for Computer Based Examination?

Answer:

Candidates can practice through the Mock Test, which are available on websites of CBSE/JEE. It will provide the look and feel of the computer based test and aspirants can download them as many time as many times as they want.

Question 15:

What will happen in case there is some problem in computer during the examination?

Answer:

There will be enough buffer computers available at the examination centers to take care of such problems and the time lost in change of system will be duly compensated as each and every second will be recorded by the server.

Question 16:

When will the results of Computer Based Examination will be declared?

Answer:

The result will be declared along with the Pen and Paper based examination.

Question 17:

Will there be a question booklet like in offline examination?

Answer:

In Computer Based Examination the questions will appear on computer screen along with the answer options. Instruction page will also be displayed before the actual test begins. The time of reading of instructions will not be part of examination duration.

Question 18:

Will a Candidate get the question paper of computer based examination as he/she gets in Pen and Paper based exam?

Answer:

Yes, the question paper along with the options marked will be mailed to each and every candidate after the exam schedule is over.

Question 19:

In case of problem in computer etc will there be somebody to assist?

Answer:

Yes, there will be qualified IT professionals.

Question 20:

How will a candidate answer a question in the Computer Based examination?

Answer:

There will be four options of each question. The candidate has to click one of the options using computer mouse which can be reviewed or re answered any time during the duration of the examination

Question 21:

How will a candidate come to know which are the questions left unanswered?

Answer:

There will be a panel on computer screen showing all the question numbers in different colour scheme which will indicate which are the questions answered, left unanswered and marked for review.

Yes, the mock test is available on CBSE / JEE websites and can be downloaded for the practice.

Question 25:

Is computer based examination is for B.E. and B. Tech. only?

Answer:

Yes.

Will a candidate get sheets/papers for rough work/calculations etc?

Answer:

Yes very much.

Is there any call center support?

Answer:

Yes. Candidates appearing in the computer based test can avail call center support through the helpline number(s), which are available on the JEE website.
