SSC Stenographer 2017: Scheme of examination and pattern

SSC has recently published its notification of SSC Stenographer 2017 exam for recruiting stenographers in various ministries/departments of central government including their subordinate offices located in several states and union territories across the country. The candidates recruited through this exam are deputed under Group-‘B’ and ‘C’ Non-Gazetted. SSC has started accepting application online from 17thJune, 2017 and registration process will continue until 15thJuly, 2017 (05:00 PM). The date of computer-based exam is decided from 4thSpetember to 7thSeptember, 2017 at www.ssconline.nic.in .

SSC Stenographer 2017: Latest Exam pattern

As per the described notification, the commission will conduct the exam in single tier in which questions will be inquired from three subjects only. The complete picture of the laid examination details are mentioned below-

Paper-I & II will be in both languages Hindi and English except Paper-III.

Skill test in Stenography:

  1. Candidates who obtain the qualifying marks in the examination as may be prescribed by the Commission will only be called for the Skill Test.
  2. Commission may also prescribe qualifying marks in each part of Examination.
  3.  The skill test will be of qualifying nature and the Commission will fix the qualifying standards in the skill test for different categories of candidates.
  4. The candidates will be given one dictation for 10 minutes in English / Hindi at the speed of 100 w.p.m. for the post of Stenographer Grade “C” and 80 w.p.m. for the post of Stenographer Grade “D”.
  5. The transcription time is as follows:-

                For Stenographer Grade “D”: 50 minutes (English) and 65 minutes (Hindi)

                For Stenographer Grade “C”: 40 minutes (English) and 55 Minutes (Hindi)  

SSC Stenographer 2017: Eligibility criteria

A person must have a minimum qualification of 12thStandard or equivalent from recognized board or university. Beyond this, all degrees/ diploma/certificates including technical education degree/ diploma awarded through open and distance learning mode of education by the universities are accounted for this post.

All candidates who are declared qualified by the Commission for appearing in the Skill Test will be required to produce the relevant Certificates such as mark sheets, provisional certificates etc. for completion of Intermediate/Higher Secondary/10+2/Senior Secondary in original as proof of having acquired the minimum educational qualification on or before 01-08-2017, failing which the candidature of such candidates will be cancelled by the Commission.            

Important Points:

Remember the following points in regard of the above context.

  1. Interview is dispensed from the examination scheme. Hence, there will be no interview for any posts.
  2. Commission reserved the right to make changes in the examination scheme.
  3. There will be a 0.25 negative marking for each wrong answer in the above exam.
  4. The merit will be prepared on the overall performance in the whole exam. There will be no sectional cut-offs.
  5. Questions in Paper-I will be of 10thLevel, Paper-II & III of 10+2 Level.
  6. Commission will set separate qualifying marks for SC/ST/OBC/PH/ExS/General categories.
  7. The skill test will be qualifying in nature.
