UPSC conducted IAS Prelims 2017 in two sessions with Question Paper of General Studies (GS) in morning shift and Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) in afternoon shift. Where the Paper 1 was mostly the lead by the current affairs questions, the Paper 2 of CSAT was being qualifying in nature got mixed response. The Paper 1 of IAS Prelims 2017 conducted by the apex exam body, UPSC at different pre-decided centers spread throughout the country at the schedule time of 9.30 AM to 11.30 AM today.While the second paper of IAS Prelims 2017 for CSAT was conducted in the schedule time of 2.30 PM to 4.30 PM on the same centers.
In 2017, approximately, One Million candidates were applied for the UPSC Civil Services 2017 Prelims Exam, whereas as usual, around half of the applicants wrote the Paper 1 of General Studies (GS) and Paper 2 of CSAT in IAS Prelims Exam 2017.

In 2017, the apex exam body Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will select the candidates through the Civil Service Examination 2017 (Pre and Main Exam) to fill 980 Group A and Group B posts in Indian Civil Services under various cadres, including IAS, IPS, IFS.
Approximately, more thanone million (11 to 12 lakh) candidates across the nation are appearing for the IAS Prelims 2017. Last year, only 4.59 lakh candidates appeared for the examination, however the number of applicants was higher.
IAS Prelims 2017 consists of two papers- Paper I -General Studies (GS) and Paper 2- Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT). The Prelims examination will be held in two shifts- morning and afternoon.
Like every year, this year too, Paper-1, i.e. The General Studies Paper carries 100 questions and the total marks allotted to the paper is 200. While, Paper 2, Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) consists of 80 questions. Both the papers consist of objective type questions.
The subjects involved in Paper I- General Studies question paper is from History and Culture, Science and Tech, Geography and Agriculture, Economy, Ecology and Environment, General Awareness and Current Affairs. Whereas, Paper 2- Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) carries questions from reasoning, quant and verbal.
Previous year, Paper I had environment and climate related questions more and questions from Geography were comparatively less. Last year GS Paper I included questions from current events of national and international importance, history of India, India and World geography, Indian politics and governance, economic and social development and the general issues on environmental ecology.
The Aptitude test/ Paper II had questions related to Comprehension, Interpersonal skills including communication skills, Logical reasoning and analytical ability, Decision making and problem solving ability, General mental ability, Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. - Class X level) and English Language Comprehension skills (Class X level).
Every year, IAS Prelims 2017 is conducted in two phases – Prelims and Mains. Candidates who will qualify the prelims examination will have the chance to appear for main examination. The main examination will be conducted on 28 October 2017.
UPSC Civil Services (IAS) Main Examination consists of two papers- Paper A and Paper B. Paper A is Language Paper and Paper B is English Paper. Both the papers consist of 300 marks.
UPSC permits six attempts to each candidate for the examination. The restriction is not applicable in case of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes candidates.
