Assam Public Service Commission has notified the Assam Combined Competitive Main (Written) Examination 2013 which is scheduled to be held in May/June 2014. The candidates who qualified the Combined Competitive Prelims exam 2013 conducted on 29 December 2013 have been notified to fill the application forms for the Assam PSC Combined Competitive (Main) exam 2013.
Number of papers in Main (Written) Exam 2013
The Assam Combined Competitive Main (Written) examination 2013 consists of total 6 papers. The questions of the Mains exam will be conventional essay type. The written exam consists of the following papers:
Paper I: General English (300 marks, 3 hours)
Paper II: General Studies (300 marks, 3 hours)
Paper III, IV, V, VI: Any two optional subjects to be selected from the list of optional subjects (two papers each) (200 marks each, 2 hours each)
Paper I (General English) consists of Essay Writing, Précis on Unseen passage, Comprehension on expression, Correction of common errors, usages of Vocabulary, Test of the ability of the candidates to write the substance in correct and precise language avoiding the inessential points.
Paper II (General Studies) includes Indian Polity, Political System of India, Indian Economy and geography of India and Assam, Role and impact of Science and Technology in India, Planning process in India, Current events of National and international importance, Indian Culture, Ancient and Modern History of India.
The questions asked will be of Essay (subjective type). Hence, the candidates need to have an in depth knowledge of all the areas mentioned in the syllabus. The focus should remain on information about Assam state as a large number of questions are asked from the state related data, details and issues. Reading the newspapers for Current Events along with NCERT school books for basics is the most indispensable part of exam preparation. Apart from these, specific optional subject related books should be studied in order to get a detailed insight into the specialization areas. Internet can prove to be highly beneficial for the current affairs and state related data.
