64th BPSC Mains Exam 2019: Exam Pattern and Detailed Syllabus

The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) holds a three tier exam for the final selection of the candidates in the administrative department of the state. All the candidates need to clear all the three stages of the BPSC exam to get the final selection.

BPSC Prelims Previous Year’s cut off

There is a written exam consisting of Prelims and Mains exam followed by an Interview. The BPSC Prelims exam is qualifying in nature. Candidates who pass the BPSC Prelims exam are called for the Mains exam. The Mains exam is of 900 marks. If a candidate qualifies the BPSC Mains exam, then he is called for the interview that is of 120 marks. Hence, the merit is prepared out of 1020 marks.

BPSC Mains 2018: Exam Pattern

The candidates who have passed the BPSC Prelims exam 2018 are called for the BPSC Mains exam. The BPSC Prelims exam is qualifying in nature. It does not matter how many marks one scores in the Prelims exam because it will not be considered for the Mains exam.

The BPSC Mains exam will have a qualifying paper General Hindi. Also, there will be General Studies Paper 1 and General Studies Paper 2. Both these Papers will carry 300 marks each. There is an Optional Paper which the candidate has to choose while filling the Application Form. The Optional Paper is of 300 marks.

BPSC Mains Exam 2018: Detailed Syllabus

Qualifying Paper: General Hindi

The Paper of General Hindi will be qualifying in nature. The syllabus of the Qualifying Paper is of the level as that of Bihar School Education Board (BSEB). The Qualifying Paper will be of 100 marks and subjective in nature. The distribution of the marks is as follows:

Out of the 100 marks, candidates are required to secure only 33 marks in the paper.

General Studies Papers (GS Papers)

Until now, every paper is of qualifying nature. The BPSC Prelims Exam and the General Hindi Paper are just qualifying. The actual exam starts now with the General Studies Papers. There are two Papers of the General Studies. Each Paper of General Studies carries 300 marks.

Optional Paper

In Optional Paper, a candidate is required to choose any one subject. This Paper will be of 300 marks with a time limit of 3 hours. There are 34 Optional subjects in the BPSC Mains exam. The syllabus of the Optional Paper will be same as that of the Three-Year Honours Paper of the respective subject of Patna University. Here is the list of the Optional Subjects:

Keeping the BPSC Mains exam 2018 syllabus in mind, students should make a schedule for their studies and start their preparation as soon as possible.
