CBSE Board Exam 2017: Class 12 Biology question paper analysis and review
CBSE Class 12 Biology board exam 2017 was held today (i.e. 05 March 2017) from 10:30 AM to 01:30 PM. In CBSE board exams, 15 minute time is allotted to read the question paper. The paper carried 70 marks and the duration of the paper was 03 hours. After the completion of the paper, there was outrage among the students, thanks a controversial VBQ (value based question). CBSE Board Exam Biology question put lakhs of students into a moral dilemma by asking them to choose between Burial or Cremation considering their ill effects on environment.
Format of CBSE Class 12 Biology 2017 Board Exam Question Paper
In CBSE Class 12 Biology question paper, there were five sections A, B, C, D, and E.
Section A contained question number 1 to 5, which were very short answer type questions of one mark each.
Section B contained question number 6 to 10, which were very short answer type (I) questions of two marks each.
Section C contained question number 11 to 22, which were short answer type (II) questions of three marks each.
Section D contained question number 23, which was a value based question of four marks.
Section E contained question number 24 to 26, which were long answer type questions of five marks each.
In the paper, there were total 31 questions. Out of these 31 questions, 26 questions need to be attempted.
Overall choices were not present in the question paper. However, an internal choice was present in 1 question of two marks, 1 question of three marks and all 3 questions of five marks.
Feedback from students & teachers about CBSE 12 Biology 2017 Paper
According to the students, CBSE 12 Biology 2017 question paper was not easy. Most of the students complained that questions were asked from unexpected topics of the syllabus. Majority of students were troubled by a value based question in section D (4 marks). Some students also complained that the paper was lengthy and they were unable to attempt all the question of the paper. Teachers also backed the claim of students over the paper. Overall, students were not happy with the question paper and their performance in the exam.

Most controversial question of CBSE Class 12 Biology Question Paper 2017 (Delhi Region)
Question number 23 (Value Based Question: Section D) in of CBSE Class 12 Biology Question Paper 2017 (Delhi Region). This question was quite tricky and completely out of the box. Most of the students were unable to answer this question.
Some people misinterpreted the question and raised issues on twitter that why ‘burying’ should be promoted over ‘burning’ to protect the environment from pollution. They also tagged Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar in their tweet.
Taking cognizance of the incident, CBSE took immediate action and debarred the subject expert who framed this controversial question and a show- cause notice was also issued to the board official.
