Tips on how to prepare ‘Environmental Studies’ for CTET 2016

Paper I of CTET exam carries 150 multiple choice questions (MCQs). Following are the major contents, each having same weightage (20 %):

i.Child Development and Pedagogy

ii.Language I

iii.Language II


v.Environmental Studies

Environmental Studies (30 Questions): Environment means surrounding around us which includes all those things on which we depend directly or indirectly, whether living things like animals, plants or non-living components like air, soil, water etc. The definition of environment suggested by Environmental Protection Act (1986) is as “Environment is the sum total of water, air and land, their interrelationship among themselves and with the human beings, other living beings and property” Environmental studies can be defined as the scientific study of the environment and the status of its inherent or induced changes on organisms which also includes the social and cultural factors and the impact of man on environment. The main importance of environmental studies is to be aware and educate human beings regarding environmental issues at local, national and international levels and to know the more sustainable ways of living. The content of this part (environmental studies) is given below:

(b)Pedagogical Issues (15 Questions)

•Concept and scope of EVS

•Significance of EVS, integrated EVS

•Environmental Studies & Environmental Education

•Approaches of presenting concepts

•Experimentation/Practical Work



•Teaching material/Aids Problems

Strategies for preparation:

•The syllabus of environmental studies covers lot of topics like Geography, History, Natural Resources etc. So, it is advised is to study the NCERT books from class 1 to 8 of to prepare well for CTET Exam.

•Few question in this section are also from general awareness, so reading news-papers and seeing daily news can help.

•Preparation of short notes is always suggested.

•Attempt online tests and previous year’s question papers and practice a lot.

•One can Join a study group (one can go for online groups too) to practise, making and answering multiple choice questions (MCQs) of various levels.

•The fundamentals of environment can be learnt online too.

•Apart from subject preparations, time management and planning are also very important.
