Gaurav Agrawal Topped in UPSC Civil Services (IAS) Exam 2013Jagran Josh
The final result of UPSC IAS exam 2013 has been declared on 12 June 2014. Gaurav Agrawal, a B. Tech from IIT Kanpur and an alumnus of IIM Lucknow, topped the exam. While, the 2nd rank has been grabbed by the Munish Sharma, a B. Sc in Bio-chemistry from Sri Venkateswara College, the 3rd rank is occupied by Rachit Raj, who banged the jackpot in first attempt. In girl’s category, Bharti Dixit scored the highest and bagged All India Rank at 5th position.
In total, 1122 candidates (including 15 orthopaedically-challenged, 7 visually challenged and 8 hearing impaired candidates) have made it to the IAS exam 2013.
It was the second attempt for Gaurav, who is at present under training at the Sardar Vallabbhai National Police Academy in Hyderabad after he got selected for IPS in his first attempt at Civil Services Examination. Gaurav credited his family as well as his near and dear ones for his success. "I used to study for 10-12 hours for my last exams. For 2013 Civil Services, I studied for about 6-8 hours," quoted Gaurav to PTI. Economics was his optional subject for the exam.
The topper in women category, Bharti Dixit is an MBBS from Lady Hardinge Medical College, who has made it to the civil services exam in her maiden attempt.
The second rank holder, Munish has also got through the exam in his second attempt. He told PTI over phone, “I am very happy. My success is the result of hard work and blessings of my teachers and my mother”.
Based on the results of the written part of Civil Services Examination 2013, held by the Union Public Service Commission in December 2013 and the interviews for Personality Test held in April-June 2014, a total of 1122 candidates have been recommended for appointment to:
(i) Indian Administrative Service;
(ii) Indian Foreign Service;
(iii) Indian Police Service; and
(iv) Central Services, Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’
However, the number of vacancies reported by the Government to be filled is 1228 including 30 PH vacancies.
In accordance with Rule 16 (4) & (5) of the Civil Services Examination Rules 2013, the Commission has maintained a consolidated Reserve List of 210 candidates, including 105 General, 88 OBC, 13 SC, and 04 ST.
It is also notified that result of one candidate has been withheld.
A total of 3, 23,949 candidates appeared for the preliminary exam that was conducted on 26 May 2013, and out of them 14,959 qualified for the Main Exam. In the Main Exam conducted in December 2013, 3,003 candidates qualified for the interviews for Personality Test held in April-June 2014. Now, the final result has been declared, in which a total of 1122 candidates, including 861 males and 261 females, have been selected for civil services.
Here are the highlights of the IAS (Civil Services) Exam 2013 Results:
• The Top 25 candidates consist of 15 males and 10 females.
• Educational qualification-wise the top 25 candidates comprise of 9 candidates belonging to Engineering; 3 candidates belonging to Medical Science; 4 candidates belonging to Sciences; and 9 candidates belonging to Commerce, Humanities & other Social Sciences background.
• Amongst the top 25 candidates, 24 took the Examination in English and one in Kannada medium.
• Out of the top 25 candidates, 5 have made to the merit list in their first attempt, 11 in second attempt, 7 in third attempt, 2 in fourth attempt.
• Of the Top 25 candidates, 20 appeared from Delhi; two from Jaipur and one each from Lucknow, Bangalore and Chandigarh Centers.
