1.Inspector / Examiner (CBEC)
An Inspector, who is an examiner, has to examine the goods and verify that proper imposing of taxes is levied on moving in or moving out goods in a port. 
Promotions in order:
Appraiser (Group-B gazetted officer) -> Assistant Commissioner -> Deputy Commissioner -> Joint Commissioner -> Commissioner
First promotion is after completion of 3 years’ service. This post is the best among all other posts.

2.Income tax Inspector (ITI)
Income Tax Inspector has to authenticate, check and process income tax records of individuals and businesses. They assess, verify, process IT records of individuals and businesses. They have to undertake the responsibilities of manipulating tax - deductible at source (TDS).

3.Preventive Officer
Preventive Officer`s duty is to gather information and take corrective action to prevent malpractices.

Superintendent of Customs -> Assistant Commissioner -> Deputy Commissioner -> Commissioner

4.Central Excise Inspector (CBEC)
A CBEC Inspector inspects tax returns filed by companies to validate liability of the claims.
Promotion in order:
Superintendent -> Assistant Commissioner -> Deputy Commissioner -> Commissioner
First promotion is after clearing departmental examination on completing 8 years of service.

5.Sub Inspector (CBI)
The Sub Inspector investigates corruption cases and other crimes.
Promotion in order:
Inspector (after minimum 5 years) -> Deputy Superintendent (after 10-12 years) -> Superintendent (after 5-7 years) -> Senior Superintendent

6.Assistant Section Officer (CSS)
They use to prepare notes; reports etc., and send to their superiors.
Promotion in order:
Section Officer (In 5 years by taking departmental examination, In 10 years by usual path) -> Under Secretary (after completing 4 years of service) -> Deputy Secretary -> Director

7.Divisional Accountant (CAG)
 Divisional Accountant audits expenditures incurred for projects undertaken by state governments.
Promotion in order:
Divisional Account Officer II -> Divisional Account Officer I -> Sr. Divisional Account Officer

8.Assistant in the Ministry of External Affairs (MoEA) - General
An assistant in the MoEA - General do only administrative work like: typing, making reports and updates of current developments, maintaining files, etc. You will get chance of foreign posting within 1.5 to 2.5 years of your joining.
Promotion in 15-17 years (without clearing departmental examination)

9.Assistant in Ministry of External Affairs (MoEA) – Cypher
An Assistant in MoEA - Cypher is responsible for decoding confidential information hidden within files and data sent through the Internet. He gets the chance of foreign posting within six years of joining.
Promotion in order:
Assistant to Administrative Officer in 5 years (After clearing departmental exam) -> Administrative Officer to Under Secretary (IFS) 8 years -> Under Secretary to Deputy Secretary (8 years) -> Deputy Secretary to Director (6 years) -> Director to Joint Secretary (4 years).

10.Assistant Enforcement Officer (AEO)
The duties of post are somewhat like an Inspector which includes preventing money laundering, forgery, carrying out searches of homes and office premises, making arrests, etc.
Promotion in order:
Enforcement Officer -> Assistant Director -> Deputy Director -> Director
There is no fixed promotion period.

11.Assistant (Ministry of Railway)
This post has almost the same responsibilities of an Upper Division Clerk.
Promotion Order:
Section officer (In 7-8 years without clearing departmental examination; in 5-6 years if clears dept. exam -> Undersecretary -> Deputy Secretary -> Director

12.Inspector (Department of Post)
A Postal Inspector is assigned around 60-70 post offices within his subdivision. He work towards expanding the business of assigned post offices and he is assisted by two mail overseers. As well as, he conducts interviews of Gramin Dak Sevaks.
Promotion in order:
Assistant Superintendent (after clearing departmental exam in 5 years) -> Postal Superintendent -> Senior Superintendent  

13.Auditor - Comptroller & Auditor General of India (CAG), Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA), Controller General of Accounts (CGA)
An Auditor audits the expense report of state departments (CAG), accounts of defence forces (CGDA) and general accounts of India (CGA).
Promotion in order:
Senior Auditor (after 3 years of service) -> AAO (after 2 years of service and clearing departmental exam)

14.Inspector - Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN)
An Inspector monitors and keeps a check on export/import of banned narcotic substances and make sure that plants are not illegally used.
Promotion in order:
Superintendent of Narcotics -> Assistant Narcotics Commissioner -> Deputy Narcotics Commissioner -> Narcotics Commissioner

15.Sub-Inspector – CBN
The job profile of Sub Inspector (CBN) is almost similar to that of an Inspector in CBN.
Promotion in order:
Inspector -> Superintendent of Narcotics -> Assistant Narcotics Commissioner -> Deputy Narcotics Commissioner -> Narcotics Commissioner

16.Sub-Inspector - National Investigation Agency (NIA)
The NIA deals with national security-related issues which include travelling, collecting evidences, gathering inputs and information during or after terrorist attacks, etc.

Inspector (after minimum 5 years) -> Deputy Superintendent -> Superintendent

17.Statistical Investigator-II
The Statistical Investigator's is responsible for data collection and its conversion into information required by government departments to implement and evaluate schemes.

18.Tax Assistant in CBDT and CBEC (Central Board of Direct Taxation and Central Board of Excise & Customs Taxation)

19.Assistant in Central Vigilance Commission (CVC)

CVC monitors all the vigilance activities carried out by various Central government departments and keep records, update case files, gather information, etc.

20.Assistant in Intelligence Bureau (IB)
Assistants in this department are data-oriented computer work.

21.Assistant in the Armed Forces Headquarters (AFHQ)

23.Upper Division Clerk (Central Govt. Offices/Ministries other than CSCS cadres)

24.Compiler (Registrar General of India)
The compilers are assigned to statistical divisions. They compile information collected through various sources.
