1. The biggest producer of the Banana crop in India is:

Banana is the second most important fruit crop in India next to mango. Its year-round availability, affordability, varietal range, tastes, nutritive and medicinal value makes it the favourite fruit among all classes of people. It has also good export potential.

In 2014, India’s banana output was more than double of any other country. Banana constitutes more than a third of all fruits grown in India. In India banana ranks first in production and third in the area among fruit crops.  It accounts for 13% of the total area and 33% of the production of fruits.

Kerala is only one of the biggest consumer states of the fruit and not the biggest producer of the crop. Three states account for more than 40% of the banana crop. They are:
Tamil Nadu: 14.2%
Gujarat: 13.8%
Andhra Pradesh: 13.4%

The International Solar Alliance (ISA) on March 26, 2018, signed the Headquarters Agreement with the Indian Government, enabling the ISA to establish its headquarters in the Host Country to discharge its functions and programmes.

The agreement was signed by General VK Singh, Minister of State of Ministry of External Affairs and Upendra Tripathy, Interim Director General of ISA.

Highlights of the Headquarters Agreement

• This Host Country Agreement makes ISA a juridical personality and gives it the power to acquire and dispose of the movable and immovable properties in the host country.

• Under this agreement, ISA will be authorised to institute and defend legal proceedings, will enjoy tax concessions and immunities as necessary to independently discharge its function and programmes.

3. India has achieved the 2nd spot to become the second largest mobile producer of the world after China by replacing which of the following countries?

India has replaced Vietnam to become the second-largest producer of mobile phones in the world, only after China. The data was shared by the Indian Cellular Association (ICA) with Union Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad. As per the information, the annual production of mobile phones in India increased from 3 million units in 2014 to 11 million units in 2017.

Key Highlights

• According to data shared by ICA, India accounted for 11 per cent of global mobile production in 2017 compared to 3 per cent in 2014.

• India replaced Vietnam to become the second largest producer of mobile phones in 2017. The top three mobile producing countries are China, India and Vietnam.

• With the rise in mobile phone production, imports of the devices in the country also reduced to less than half in 2017-18.

• The government has established a Fast Track Task Force (FTTF) under Ministry of Electronics and IT, which has set the target to achieve around 500 million mobile phone production in India by 2019, with an estimated value of USD 46 billion.

5. Which of the following states has started the 'Rupashree scheme’ for the marriage of poor girls?

Explanation:

The state government of West Bengal on March 28, 2018, introduced a new scheme called ‘Rupashree’ in order to provide marriage assistance to girls coming from economically weaker families with a budgetary allocation of Rs 1500 crore.

The scheme’s announcement was made earlier by the state’s Finance Minister Amit Mitra during the presentation of the state budget for 2018-19.

Key Features

• The scheme proposes to extend one-time financial assistance worth Rs 25,000 to the family of the girl whose annual income is up to Rs 1.5 lakh.

• The state’s Finance Minister has proposed to provide Rs 1500 crore for the implementation of the scheme.
