# JEE Advanced 2018 Question Papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2

After successfully conducting JEE Advanced 2018 on May 20, the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur has released the question paper in PDF format. In this article, we are providing the question paper of JEE Advanced 2018. It will help students to get familiar with the difficulty level of the questions along with the paper pattern. There are 54 questions in each paper and students can score a maximum of 180 marks in each paper. By going through the papers aspirants get to know about the pattern and difficulty level of the paper.

The students who are thinking to appear for JEE Advanced 2019 after cracking JEE Main 2019 should solve the previous year’s question papers. Benefits of solving previous years’ question papers are given below:

1. It helps students to understand the type, nature and format of the questions.

2. Students can get familiar with the difficulty level of the questions.

3. It also helps students in figuring out important topics from which more questions can be asked.

4. Students can easily assess their preparation by solving these papers.

**Some of the sample questions from the JEE Advanced 2018 Question Paper 1 are given below:**

**Question: **

A uniform capillary tube of inner radius *r* is dipped vertically into a beaker filled with water. The water rises to a height ℎ in the capillary tube above the water surface in the beaker. The surface tension of water is σ. The angle of contact between water and the wall of the capillary tube is θ. Ignore the mass of water in the meniscus. Which of the following statements is (are) true?

(A) For a given material of the capillary tube, ℎ decreases with increase in *r*

(B) For a given material of the capillary tube, ℎ is independent of σ

(C) If this experiment is performed in a lift going up with a constant acceleration, then ℎ decreases

(D) ℎ is proportional to contact angle θ.

**Question:**

The correct statement(s) regarding the binary transition metal carbonyl compounds is (are) (Atomic numbers: Fe = 26, Ni = 28)

(A) Total number of valence shell electrons at metal centre in Fe(CO)_{5} or Ni(CO)_{4} is 16

(B) These are predominantly low spin in nature

(C) Metal–carbon bond strengthens when the oxidation state of the metal is lowered

(D) The carbonyl C−O bond weakens when the oxidation state of the metal is increased

**Question:**

The number of 5 digit numbers which are divisible by 4, with digits from the set

{1, 2, 3, 4, 5} and the repetition of digits is allowed, is

**Question:**

Consider a thin square plate floating on a viscous liquid in a large tank. The height *h* of the liquid in the tank is much less than the width of the tank. The floating plate is pulled horizontally with a constant velocity *u*_{o}. Which of the following statements is (are) true?

(A) The resistive force of liquid on the plate is inversely proportional to *h*

(B) The resistive force of liquid on the plate is independent of the area of the plate

(C) The tangential (shear) stress on the floor of the tank increases with *u*_{o}

(D) The tangential (shear) stress on the plate varies linearly with the viscosity *ɳ*

**Question:**

Galena (an ore) is partially oxidized by passing air through it at high temperature. After some time, the passage of air is stopped, but the heating is continued in a closed furnace such that the contents undergo self-reduction. The weight (in kg) of Pb produced per kg of O_{2} consumed is ____.

(Atomic weights in g mol^{-1}: O = 16, S = 32, Pb = 207)

**Question:**

Let *P* be a matrix of order 3 × 3 such that all the entries in *P*, are from the set {–1, 0, 1}. Then, the maximum possible value of the determinant *P* is _____.
