JEE Main Exam Pattern 2020: Know Major changes introduced by NTA

JEE Main 2020: Online registration for the Joint Entrance Examinations (JEE Main) 2020 has already begun and last date of registration is 30th September, 2019. Aspiring candidates can apply for the January session of JEE Main 2020 online on jeemain.nic.in or nta.ac.in. Meanwhile, students must get aware of the latest examination pattern of JEE Main 2020. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has introduced some major changes in the examination pattern. Here, we have briefed all important changes made in the JEE Main 2020 Exam Pattern. Students must go through these changes so that they may lay down a perfect plan for the preparations of one of the most important examinations of their life.

1. Separate exam for B.Planning aspirants:

For the first time in the history of JEE mains, a separate exam will be organised for the candidates who wish to apply for B.Planning courses. Thus, JEE Main 2020 will be conducted in three sections; Paper 1 for B.Tech/ B.E., Paper 2 for B.Arch and Paper 3 for B.Planning. Now, students have a choice to appear for any one, or two, or all three papers, as per their choice.

2. Examination pattern for B.Planning:

In JEE Main 2020, Paper 3 for B.Planning will have total 100 questions divided into three parts:

  • Part I - Mathematics
  • Part II -Aptitude test
  • Part III - Planning based questions

Question paper will carry total 400 marks. The entire question paper will be computer-based only.

3. Fewer questions in Paper 1 for B.E/B. Tech:

From JEE Main 2020, in B.E / B.Tech paper, there will be 75 questions instead of 90. The number of questions in each section of paper has been reduced from 30 to 25 with 20 multiple choice questions and 5 long-form questions based on numerical problems.

4. Pattern of Paper 2 for B.Arch:

JEE Main 2020, Paper 3 for B. Arch will have total 77 questions divided into three parts:

  • Part I - Mathematics
  • Part II - Aptitude test
  • Part III - Drawing Test

In the drawing test for B. Arch which used to have three questions will now have only 2 questions.

Note: Mathematics and aptitude papers will remain common to both B.Planning and B.Archpapers.

Part I and Part II of B.Arch paper will be conducted in Computer Based Test mode while Part III will be conducted in Pen and Paper Based (offline) mode.

Like in the previous year, this time again JEE Main will be conducted twice before admissions in the next academic year. NTA will conduct the first session of JEE Main from 6th January to 11thJanuary, 2020, while the second session of the exam will be organised from 3rd April to 9thApril, 2020.
