1. Wait for the result of State Level Engineering Exams (if appeared):

Apart from JEE Main, different state level exams (UPSEE, WBJEE) are conducted through which students can take admission in engineering courses in that particular state. Students who appeared for any state level entrance exam, must wait for their result before taking any decision on year drop for IIT JEE preparation.

2. Attend JoSAA counselling to get admission in NITs, IIITs and CFTIs

JoSAA is an acronym for “Joint Seat Allocation Authority”. It is constituted by the Ministry of HRD to oversee joint seat allocation for the IITs, NITs, IIITs and other GFTIs. JoSAA is the only authorized agency responsible for joint seat allocation on the basis of All India Ranking (AIR) of JEE Main (in NITs, IIITs and CFTIs) and JEE Advanced (in IITs). The JoSAA counselling procedure will include the following steps:

  • Registration for JEE Main Counselling
  • Filling choices from list of participating Institutes
  • Allotment of seats
  • Payment of fees for seat locking
  • Documents verification and reporting

3. Attend counseling organized by universities on the basis of JEE Main Score 2019:

Apart from NITs, IIITs and CFTIs, there are more than 1,100 engineering colleges that accept JEE Main Rank for admissions to various engineering branches. Mentioned below are some universities offering admission through JEE Main scores:

  • Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi
  • Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra
  • Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala
  • Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), New Delhi and many more.

4. Finally take a strong decision on year drop:

Generally, it is difficult for students to crack JEE Main who appeared for this competitive test just after taking their board examinations because they were more focused to score good marks in Class 12. Students can prepare better if they take a year drop, as they will get enough time to cover the complete syllabus of the JEE Main. It will ensure a good success in the exam.

Read when should you drop a year after class 12 for IIT JEE preparation?

Since, the competition is increasing year by year and taking a year drop doesn’t guarantee the selection of the candidates. Hence, students must think twice before taking a year drop for IIT JEE preparation. But if students are sure that they can improve their rank in the next attempt, then it will be good for them to take a year drop for IIT JEE Preparation and give their 100% effort to fulfill their dream of pursuing engineering from IITs, NITs or other prominent engineering Institutes.
