This is how you can balance motherhood with active work life
Work life can be hectic enough for any person, let alone for a mother who has a small child to take care of. A good number of women quit their jobs for a few years to take care of the kid and have to sacrifice with their career growth, as they have to start things anew when they get back as a professional. If this is not something you are looking for and do not want to quit the job and position you got after so much hard work, here are tips you can follow to balance motherhood with your work life.
1. Don't feel guilty for being ambitious
It is completely okay to not want to quit your job for raising the child. The idea of selflessness is imposed on women by the society and is not something you have to comply to. Also, as a working mother you will be able to afford better facilities and education for your child and that should also help you get rid of the guilt. 2. Find a good crèche
If both you and your husband are working and there is no other elder at home, you can choose to admit your child at a crèche or hire a nanny. A nanny, on the other hand, will come and take care of your child in your own house so the comfort will be higher. However, you might feel sceptical about leaving your child with the nanny alone for so many hours. 3. Don't leave everything for the morning
It is essential that you get some work done in the night so that your mornings are smooth and easy. Divide the tasks between you and your partner and do things like packing the tiffins, choosing and laying out clothes for next day, the night before so that there is lesser rush in the morning. If you are going to make the tiffin in the morning, you can do preparations for it in the night by chopping vegetables and doing things which can be done in advance. Mornings are the most important part of the day and they should be easy and relaxed.
4. Create a family calendar
Mark important dates on your smartphone calendar as they will help you organize your activities accordingly. Mark the dates for significant occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, school events etc. Google's special calendar helps you to mark everything in different colours and share the same on the cloud. Having a family calendar will help you in organizing things better as you will know how much time you have in your hands in any particular month and hence you will be able to plan work, vacations and parties around it.
5. Talk to your boss
You will be surprised to know how much you can get merely by asking. Bosses are generally more lenient than you imagine them to be and be more than willing to help you out. Tell them that you have a young child at home and if possible, they should keep your timings according to those needs. Being open with them with also help you take day off when you really need it, without too much interrogation. In case you are taking a maternity leave, discuss how many days can you take it for and how many of them will be compensated.
6. Stay connected through technology
Modern technology can help you stay connected with your family members. If your child is big enough to be talking, you can call him/her on the phone and ask about their wellbeing. Also tell them that you will be back home very soon so that they have the reassurance and feel safe.
