IAS Syllabus for Preliminary Examination 2011

UPSC issued notification for Civil Services Examination 2011 which includes IAS (Indian Administrative Service), IFS (Indian Foreign Service), IPS (Indian Police Service) and other Central Services (Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’). Although the name of the preliminary round of the civil services examination 2011, Civil Services (Prelims), the examination pattern has undergone a change. Earlier, there used to be GS objective type paper and the optional subject paper. Instead there will now be two compulsory papers-one is Civil Services Preliminary Exam Paper I and the other is Civil Services Exam Paper II. Both papers will carry 200 marks each. The syllabus of Civil Services (prelims) Examination 2011 is given as following:

Civil Service Preliminary Exam Paper I - 200 Marks - 2 Hours
Current Events of National and International Importance
History of India and Indian National Movement
Indian and World Geography - Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the world
Indian Polity and Governance - Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues
Economic and Social Development - Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives
General Issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change
General Science

Civil Services Preliminary Exam Paper II - 200 marks - 2 Hours
Comprehension
Interpersonal skills including communication skills
Logical reasoning and analytical ability
Decision-making and problem solving
General mental ability
Basic numeracy (Class X level)
English language comprehension (Class X level)
