Honourable Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar has inaugurated the permanent campus of IIM Tiruchirappalli through video conferencing mode from New Delhi on 03 April 2017.
The institute has been built on an estimated cost of Rs 772 crore on a 175-acre land near Chinna Suriyur village on the Trichy-Pudukkottai road. IIM Trichy campus has world class amenities, with hostels to accommodate around 400 students, staff quarters and a recreation club. The campus has been constructed in a record 30 months, the project was initially estimated at Rs 333 crore. Later, the cost was revised to Rs 650 crore.
On this occasion the HRD Minister also commented that the Parliament will clear a new IIM bill. This would ensure complete autonomy to the IIMs and empower them to offer postgraduate degrees, said the minister. “The expenses on your career building are coming from the taxes paid by the citizen and society at large,” said Javadekar. Mr. Javadekar has also congratulated the faculty of IIM Trichy for the timely completion of New Campus and urged to carry forward the legacy of delivering best quality education in the new premises will be offered to the students coming there with promising dreams of a settled and secure career.
About IIM Trichy
At present IIM Tiruchirapalli is functioning from NIT campus since its inception six years back. The foundation stone for permanent IIM campus was laid by the then Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal in 2011 on 170 acres of land provided by Tamil Nadu government.
The new campus hold an Academic Block, Admin Block, Faculty Housing for 40, Student Hostels for 400, Staff Housing for 42 officers and staff are built with world class facility in the new campus.
