IIT JEE 2019: Candidates registered under EWS category face trouble in getting required certificate

Candidates, who have applied for the EWS quota to avail the reservation in IITs, are facing trouble in getting income certificate. MHRD confirms of taking necessary steps to resolve the issue.

From this year, the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have kept about 500 seats reserved for candidates belonging to for economically weaker section (EWS). So, this was the first time that students could apply under EWS quota. While the second phase of the Joint Entrance Examination, JEE Advanced has been concluded and results are awaited before the start of counselling process, candidates who have applied for over 500 seats reserved for economically weaker section (EWS) at 23 IITs are facing trouble in getting the supporting certificate from the issuing authorities.

The whole matter was brought into the notice of the Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD), the officials have come up with a response confirming that all necessary steps and actions are being taken to resolve this issue.

According to the IIT Roorkee, the exam conducting body for JEE Advanced 2019, about 12000 students from all over India have registered under the EWS category.

The addition of the EWS category would not disturb the number of seats for general category. Most of the 23 IITs will implement around 4% EWS quota this year. The increase in the total number of seats will be less than 9%.

This year, about 1.73 lakh students appeared to JEE Advanced 2019. The exam was conducted in two parts (Paper 1 and 2). The result of JEE Advanced 2019 will be announced on June 14. After the the declaration of result, Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) will conduct the JEE Main counselling and seat allotment process for admission to the participating institutes.
