Times Higher Education has released its list of 100 Under 50 Universities 2014, which is a ranking of the top 100 universities under 50 years old. And, IIT-Guwahati has secured a place in this list of world’s top 100 dynamic young universities - the only Indian entry in the list.

The evaluation methodology for THE 100 Under 50 Universities 2014 ranking has ranked India's lone entry IIT-Guwahati at the 87th position.

The THE envisions the future of education by examining and ranking a new breed of global universities that have managed to join the world’s elite academic institutions in a matter of decades rather than centuries and those with the potential to furnish the best quality education.

India has joined the THE 100 Under 50 ranking for the first time.

The East Asian institutions lead the “100 Under 50” with the 4 universities from South Korea, Hong Kong and Singapore made it in the top-five of the list.

This is the third year back to back when the Pohang University of Science and Technology from South Korea topped the list of world’s 100 under 50 universities.

Switzerland's Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne is at second position while Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) from Republic of Korea is at the third position, followed by Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong at fourth and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore at fifth.

With 14 institutions from each, the UK and Australia brought the most representatives to the list, while the US has only eight institutions in the list. Among other top performers in this list of 100 include Spain (7 representatives), France (6), Germany (6), Canada (5) and Taiwan (4).

Like India, Brazil also has single entry in the list, and shockingly, the mainland China and Russia have failed to secure any place.

The 100 Under 50 included only those universities/institutions that are founded in 1964 or later.
