Jagran Josh: First of all congratulations for your great success in JEE Advanced 2014. Were you confident of getting such an amazing result?
Chitarang: Thanks a lot. Well yes…to be honest, I was quite sure of cracking the exam with good rank. I was expecting my AIR to be in top 20 but it really is an unexpected result and I am very happy that my hard work really paid me off.
Jagran Josh: To whom do you want to give the credit for your tremendous and unexpected success?
Chitarang: My uncle Mr. A.K. Jain motivated me a lot for appearing in this exam. My grandfather who inspired me to be an engineer and my parents who always supported me even if I couldn’t perform well at some point of time, they were very supportive and showed complete faith in me.
Jagran Josh: Being among the toppers of the JEE Advanced, what do you think are unique factors which helped you in performing spectacularly?
Chitarang: The achievement has been possible due to my hard work, focus and determination that I put in the last 2 years. Moreover my curiosity of exploring the facts, fundamentals and concepts helped me a lot in understanding the basics of the entire subject which plays a key role for the success in the exam.
Jagran Josh: What was your preparation strategy and how much time did you dedicate for the preparation of JEE Advanced?
Chitarang: A regular study is very important for the success in exam. I always tried that whatever is taught in coaching must be revised on the same day and the all assignments given, must be completed in the appropriate time. I used to study in the slots of three hours, as the exam of JEE is of three hours.
Jagran Josh: Tell us from where did you pass your 10th and 12th and how much you scored in these two exams?
Chitarang: I did my 10th from St. Paul senior secondary school, Udaipur and my CGPA was 10.0. I completed my 12th from Delhi Public School, Udaipur and I scored 97% of marks.
Jagran Josh: Out of three which subject do you feel was easiest and which one was the toughest to prepare for the JEE Advanced 2014?
Chitarang: According to me, Physics was easiest to prepare as it is my favourite subject and Chemistry was toughest as the chemistry has very huge course content.
Jagran Josh: What is the role of coaching in the preparation for JEE Advanced? Is it necessary or a candidate can prepare by his own?
Chitarang: The syllabus of JEE MAIN and JEE ADVANCED is very enormous and coaching helps a student in creating the environment and the motivation to go through the whole syllabus. Coachings also help the students in resolving their doubts. As far as self preparation is concerned if a candidate can create such environment and resolve his doubts by his own then he should not take admission in any coaching.
Jagran Josh: Which books would you refer to the JEE aspirants?
Chitarang: I usually prefer the books of foreign authors as reference books because the content of these books is very helpful. The material provided by the coachings is also very useful.
Jagran Josh: What would you suggest about the last days (say, one month) preparation?
Chitarang: The period of fifty days between JEE MAIN and JEE ADVANCED is very crucial. We must create some short notes on the whole syllabus in the earlier days of studies so that we can revise the whole syllabus in the 45 days. In last 5 or 6 days we must remain stress free and try to do the revisions only and must have a complete sleep one night before the exam.
Jagran Josh: When and why did you decide to choose Engineering as a career?
Chitarang: Since childhood I have a huge interest in technical concepts and skills that are used or applied in day-to-day life. Learning new technology and advancements is also my one of the hobbies, so for being the part of it, I chose Engineering.
Jagran Josh: Were the social media channels like whatsapp and facebook helpful to you in any way for the preparation?
Chitarang: More than helping these social media channels are the hindrance in the preparation, so I always try to keep the distance from different social media channels during my preparation period of two years.
Jagran Josh: During such a prolonged and hectic study schedule, what did you do to refresh and relax your mind and what are you hobbies?
Chitarang: During My studies, in order to relax and soothe myself I used take a break of 1 hour and during this time, sometimes I went for some outdoor activity and sometimes I read novel. Cooking is my hobby so sometimes I used to cook some food which also gives me a needed break and make me feel relaxed.
Jagran Josh: What will be your preferred branches and institutions in the counselling?
Chitarang: I have chosen Computer Science in IIT - Bombay.
Jagran Josh: Your message and tips for engineering aspirants, Jagran Josh viewers and members?
Chitarang: During The two years of my studies I have always tried to learn from my mistake. One should never ignore his/her mistake as even the silly mistakes can destroy your dreams. I also want to make a request from the parents that never force your children to choose a career of your choice. Parents must support their children in choosing them the career of their interest.
Jagran Josh wishes you all the best for your future!
Chitarang: Thanks a lot for your wishes.
