    Students work hard day and night for JEE preparation but sometimes due to some mistakes their application form get cancelled or they don’t know the requirements for appearing in JEE. In this article we bring to you some frequently asked questions related to JEE Main 2019.

    Questions related to Computer Based Examination and Center Allocation:

    Question 1:

    Whether the examination will be offline or online?

    Answer:

    This will be computer based test and will be conducted through online mode only.

    Question 2:

    If a candidate forgets to book his session for online exam, how will he get information about the date and session of the examination?

    Answer:

    If a candidate fails to make any selection, slot will be assigned randomly to the respective candidates as per the availability of the same; details are provided on page no.11 of information bulletin. Candidates can check the details of session and slot through the admit card which will be available to download from March 1st, 2017.

    Question 3:

    Is there any provision for students willing to attend for both the exams at different exam centers i.e. Paper -1 as Computer based (CBT) and Paper -2 as Pen and Paper based.

    Answer:

    As Paper-II is available in Pen & Paper mode only hence candidates have to select the center that has provision for both modes. Appendix-2 of information bulletin contains the list of all such centers. Different Roll number or separate admit card will not be issued to any candidates who are willing to appear in both papers.

    For example: PATNA: Candidates can choose the center if they wish to appear in both paper, Pen & Paper Based and Computer Based.

    Question 4:

    When JEE Main 2019 will be conducted?

    It will be conducted twice in January, 2019 and in April, 2019.

    Will NTA make JEE Main tougher than before?

    Questions related to Eligibility for appearing in JEE Main 2019:

    Question 1:

    How many times a student can appear in one year?

    Answer:

    To appear in JEE (Advanced) a diploma holder can apply in JEE Main 2019but his/her rank and NTA score for JEE (Main) will not be declared as diploma holders cannot apply for admission to NITs and CFTIs through JEE (Main) channel.

    Question 2:

    What is the Eligibility Criteria for private candidates?

    Answer:

    As per Information Bulletin: The candidates who have cleared their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying exam in 2017 or 2018; or the candidates who are appearing in their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying exam in 2019 are eligible to appear in JEE Main 2019. Candidates who cleared Class 12th/Qualifying examination in 2016 or before as well as those who will appear in such examination in 2020 or later are not eligible to appear in JEE Main 2019. Candidates who appeared in class 12th/equivalent Qualifying Examinations in 2015, did not qualify in 2015, but passed in 2016 are also not eligible to appear in JEE Main 2019.

    Above criteria is applicable for both private and regular candidates. Private candidate can fill ‘xxx’ against the school name column.

    Question 3:

    What are Eligibility norms for Diploma Students in JEE Main 2019?

    Answer:

    To appear in JEE Advanced a diploma holder can apply in JEE Main 2019 but his/her rank and NTA score for JEE Main will not be declared as diploma holders cannot apply for admission to NITs and CFTIs through JEE Main channel.

    Question 5:

    What are HSC vocational courses?

    Answer:

    Various states have different HSC vocational courses, so students of different states will have to verify it from their particular state.

    Questions related to Online Application Format:

    Question 1:

    How can I apply for JEE Main 2019?

    Answer:

    Application form for JEE Main 2019 can be submitted only online through website www.nta.ac.in. Details are available under Chapter-5 “Application procedure for JEE Main 2019” as provided in the Information Bulletin of JEE Main 2019. Keep the correct details ready before submission of form after carefully reading of Information Bulletin.

    Question 2:

    Which scanned images have to be uploaded in the JEE Main 2019 application form?

    Answer:

    The candidates had to upload the scanned images of their photograph, signature and their father/ mother/ guardian’s signature in the application form of JEE (Main)-2019.

    Question 3:

    If a candidate has passed in 2016 and has appeared for improvement in 2017 and is again going for improvement in 2018, what he will fill in the academic details section.

    Answer:

    In this case, he/she will fill in as under:

    • Year of Passing 12th / Qualifying Examination : 2016
    • Roll Number of either year: 2016/2017 (as per candidate’s wish)
    • Percentage of same year as the roll number mentioned: 2016/2017
    • Appearing for Improvement of Class 12th/ Intermediate/ Qualifying Exam: YES

    Question 4:

    Which thumb impression should be uploaded while filling JEE Main 2019 form?

    Answer:

    Boys have to upload left hand thumb whereas girls have to upload right hand thumb however in case of wrong thumb impression is uploaded, the candidates have to apply the same thumb impression on the attendance sheet during exam.

    Question 5:

    If a candidate forgets to mention his/her name on the Photograph, would the form be rejected?

    Answer:

    No the form will not be rejected if it doesn’t have the Name of the candidate and date on which the photograph is taken and no correction is required in such a case.

    Question 6:

    How will an NRI or a foreign student enter his/her mobile number?

    Answer:

    Such candidates can enter the mobile number against the field of landline number.

    Questions related to Correction in online application:

    Question 1:

    Can we correct the details once entered while filling online application?

    Answer:

    Yes, students can correct some details between October 8 and 14, 2018. No corrections shall be allowed under any circumstances after this date.

    Questions related to Fee Transaction:

    Question 1:

    While fee payment, what a candidate can do if transaction failed?

    Answer:

    Always use internet explorer 6 or higher version to upload form in order to avoid problems. If any case, candidates will not receive the payment status of online transaction (by credit/debit card) is not communicated in real time then fee payment is not accomplished. Candidates have to fill the application fee again through online transaction or by e- challan in order to generate acknowledgement page. If the amount gets debited then it will refunded back within 07 to 10 days.

    Miscellaneous Questions:

    Question 1:

    Whether the Hindi Medium paper will come in both the languages?

    Answer:

    Yes, Hindi medium paper will be bilingual in English and Hindi medium.

    Question 2:

    Is Aadhar Card mandatory for filling the application form?

    Answer:

    Yes, it is necessary to enter the Aadhar card number in the application form.

    Question 3:

    How can Assam, J&K and Meghalaya candidates apply, having no Aadhar card?

    Answer:

    Just they have to enter passport number, ration card number, bank account number or any other valid Government identity number.

    Question 4:

    My name in Aadhar card is not exactly similar or not in same pattern as in school records. Which name I have to enter? Will it create problem later on?

    Answer:

    Such candidate have to enter the name which is written in the passing certificate of 10th class and should submit a correction request to Aadhar centre and apply for JEE Main by entering 14 digits Aadhar Enrolment ID printed on the slip that is being issued by Aadhar centre after submitting updation request.

    Question 5:

    What if a candidate has no thumb?

    Answer:

    He/She can upload impression of finger or foot thumb also and same should be applied on the attendance sheet during examination.

    Question 6:

    Whether candidates appeared for Paper-2 will be eligible for admission to B.Arch in IFs?

    Answer:

    Paper-2 of the JEE Main is for the B.Arch and B.Planning. The candidates who appeared in paper-2 will be eligible for admission to NITs/SPAs and other CFTIs where B.Arch is available.

    Question 7:

    Will the JEE exams get tougher from 2018 onwards due to involvement of National Testing Agency?

    Answer:

    No. The syllabus and the pattern of the examination would remain the same.

    Question 8:

    Is there any change in the syllabus of JEE Main 2019?

    Answer:

    There is no change in the Syllabus of JEE Main 2019.

    Question 9:

    Will there be any changes in the JoSSA counselling process?

    Answer:

    No, there is no change in JoSSA counselling process.

    Question 10:

    Is it necessary to appear in JEE (Main) Examination twice? If I give the examination on both

    the occasions, which score will be considered?

    Answer:

    No it is not necessary to appear in JEE(Main) twice. This would be optional for the candidate to appear once or twice for the current academic session. In case they have attempted both the examinations, best of the scores would be taken for the merit list.

    Question 11:

    I have no access to a computer and no experience with online examination. How can I prepare for the examination?

    Answer:

    NTA will be identifying schools, colleges and other institutions with internet and computer facilities in due course of time.  The same will be designated as Test Practice Centers (TPCs) for facilitating free practice sessions on every Saturday and Sunday for JEE Main 2019 aspirants.

    Questions related to JEE Main 2019 Computer Based (Online) Examination:

    Question 1:

    What is Computer Based Exam (Online mode)?

    Answer:

    Computer Based Exam will be conducted by using the Local Area Network (LAN) to make it more secure, safe and un-interrupted.

    Question 2:

    What are the benefits of Computer Based Examination?

    Answer:

    Computer based exam has following listed benefits:

    • The candidate can review or re-answer any question at any point of time during the examination.
    • The candidate can change the option of the answer during the exam duration and it is one of the most important feature of computer based examination
    • The candidate also has the option to mark any answer for review at later stage during the examination.
    • There will be a panel on computer screen showing all the question numbers in different colour scheme which will indicate which questions are answered, left unanswered and marked for review
    • It is used to enhance the confidence of the candidates while using Information technology.

    Question 3:

    What is the last date for sending online application for computer based exam and its procedure?

    Answer:

    Candidates have to apply online on or before 30 September 2018 through JEE (Main) website.

    Question 4:

    Is Computer Based Exam based on Internet?

    Answer:

    No

    Question 5:

    When will the Computer Based Examination held?

    Answer:

    The examination is scheduled to be conducted between Jan 6 and 20, 2019.

    Question 6:

    What will be the time schedule of computer based exam?

    Answer:

    The examination will be in two shifts i.e.

    • First shift from 09.30 – 12.30 Hours [IST]
    • Second shift from 14.30 – 17.30 Hours [IST]

    Question 7:

    When will a candidate has to report at exam centre?

    Answer:

    Before 30 minutes from the exam time.

    Question 8:

    What a candidate must know about computer in order to appear for Computer Based Examination?

    Answer:

    The candidate must be aware about how to use computer mouse.

    Question 9:

    Is there any provision to change the exam date after submitting form?

    Answer:

    No

    Question 10:

    What will be the medium of Computer Based Test?

    Answer:

    All Examination Centre Cities

    English and Hindi Medium

    Examination Centre Cities in Gujarat, Daman & Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli

    English, Hindi and Gujarati

    Examination Centre Cities in Maharashtra

    English, Hindi, Marathi and Urdu

    Note: The Candidate can also switch medium as many times as he/she wants during the examination.


    Question 11:

    Is the Computer Based Test is secure?

    Answer:

    It is very secure with zero error possibility as human intervention is minimal.

    Question 12:

    Is there any practice test for Computer Based Examination?

    Answer:

    Candidates can practice through the Mock Test, which are available on websites of JEE/NTA. It will provide the look and feel of the computer based test and aspirants can download them as many time as many times as they want.

    Question 13:

    What will happen in case there is some problem in computer during the examination?

    Answer:

    There will be enough buffer computers available at the examination centers to take care of such problems and the time lost in change of system will be duly compensated as each and every second will be recorded by the server.

    Question 14:

    When will the results of Computer Based Examination be declared?

    Answer:

    The result will be declared by January 31, 2019.

    Question 15:

    Will there be a question booklet like in offline examination?

    Answer:

    In Computer Based Examination the questions will appear on computer screen along with the answer options. Instruction page will also be displayed before the actual test begins. The time of reading of instructions will not be part of examination duration.

    Question 16:

    In case of problem in computer etc will there be somebody to assist?

    Answer:

    Yes, there will be qualified IT professionals.

    Question 17:

    How will a candidate answer a question in the Computer Based examination?

    Answer:

    There will be four options of each question. The candidate has to click one of the options using computer mouse which can be reviewed or re answered any time during the duration of the examination.

    Question 18:

    How will a candidate come to know which the questions are left unanswered?

    Answer:

    There will be a panel on computer screen showing all the question numbers in different colour scheme which will indicate which are the questions answered, left unanswered and marked for review.

    Question 19:

    Can a candidate change his/her answer?

    Answer:

    Yes, at any time during the exam and it is one of the most important features of computer based examination.

    Question 20:

    If a candidate has selected medium of question paper as English but want to see question in Hindi for more clarity or vice-a-versa, is this possible?

    Answer:

    Yes you can easily do with the click of computer mouse.

    Question 21:

    Will a candidate be getting some practice test, if yes, than how and when?

    Answer:

    Yes, the mock test will be available on NTA/JEE Main websites.

    Question 22:

    Is computer based examination is for B.E. and B. Tech. only?

    Answer:

    Yes.

    Question 23:

    Will a candidate get sheets/papers for rough work/calculations etc?

    Answer:

    Yes very much.

    Question 24:

    Can I use calculator in online examination conducted by NTA?

    Answer:

    No. Candidates are not allowed to carry calculators or any other electronic device in the examination centre. Detailed information in this regard is available in the Information Bulletin.

    Question 25:

    Is there any call center support?

    Answer:

    Yes. Candidates appearing in the computer based test can avail call center support through the helpline number(s), which are 7042399520, 7042399521, 7042399525 and 7042399526. Students can also send the mail to jeemain-nta@nic.in for any issue.
