The post of Assistant Teacher exists in various schools being run by the Central Government and State Government owned related bodies or departments. To become an Assistant Teacher you must have good command over the subject of teaching and aptitude for teaching. Eligibility for Assistant Teacher

To become an Assistant Teacher a candidate must be graduate in any discipline and s/he must have completed two years’ duration DLEd (earlier BTC) / Special BTC / Urdu BTC special training or after qualifying two years BTC Shiksha Mitra UPTET / CTET qualified.

Or, the candidates must be Graduate and two years’ duration Diploma DEd in Education / Education (Special) and UPTET/CTET qualified.

Or candidate may be Intermediate qualified with minimum 50 per cent marks and Graduate in Elementary Education (BLEd) of four years’ duration and s/he must have TET qualified.

To become Assistant Teacher on Primary Level a candidate must be Graduate and two years Diploma in Primary Education of equivalent degree. Else, candidate must be Graduate with minimum 50% of marks and have done B.Ed. / B.Ed. (Special Education) of one year duration. Or, the candidate should have completed Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with minimum 50% marks and have done Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.) / B.A./B.Sc. Ed. Or B.A. Ed. / B. Sc. Ed. Additionally, the candidate should be Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) qualified.

Selection Process for Assistant Teacher

The selection of candidates for Assistant Teacher post is usually done on the basis of their performance in Academic Records, Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) and Personal Interview. However, if the recruitment body finds enormous number of applications against the number of vacancies advertised, it may conduct a written test as well. Written exam usually conducted for 3 hours duration and candidates need to secure at least 45 per cent of marks in order to qualify. The 60 per cent marks are added in the educational multiplier (during merit calculation) of the qualified candidates.

Salary Structure of Assistant Teacher

The post of Assistant Teacher is common at the schools being operated by the Central and State Government bodies or department, where the Pay is according to the Pay Structure implemented in the government departments. On the post of Assistant Teacher, pay is given as per the Pay Band – 2 (Rs.9300 – 34800 and Grade Pay 4200) of the Sixth Pay Commission. However, if the appointment is on contract basis, a consolidated pay of Rs. 40000/- per month is given.

The selection body usually conducts a mass recruitment drive for these posts time to time. For some schools and education institutions, the direct recruitment process is conducted at the district level.
