  • Amendment Sought in Road Safety Bill

    On 21 July 2010, Parliamentary standing committee in its report presented in Rajya Sabha sought amendment in Road Safety and Traffic Management and Board Bill. The committee recommended that the bill which aims only at national highways should be replaced with effective and comprehensive legislation which will cover entire Road network inside the country, not only the national highways.

  • Practitioners in Siddha, Ayurveda etc to Practise Respective System

    Justice F M Ibrahim Kalifulla of Madras High Court on 29 July 2010 maintained that registered practitioners in siddha, ayurveda, homeopathy and unani are eligible to practise surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, anaesthesiology, ENT, ophthalmology, etc. The decision was taken when a court petition was filed by Tamil Nadu Siddha Medical Graduates. The circular of the government had already established that institutionally qualified practitioners of siddha, ayurveda, unani and homeopathy are eligible to practice the respective system with modern scientific medicine after citing section 17(3)B of the Indian Medicine Central Council Act 1970. The circular was referred to while passing the judgement.
