Former CM becomes Commoner, Chandrababu Naidu frisked at Airport, denied VIP access to Plane
Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and now the Leader of Opposition N. Chandrababu Naidu had to undergo frisking at Vijayawada International Airport on the night of June 14. In a picture that went viral on social media, a security guard was seen frisking Naidu at the security entrance of the airport.
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief was also denied VIP access to the plane. He had to travel in a bus along with common passengers to reach the aircraft. Naidu was leaving for Hyderabad after holding a review meeting with the TDP leaders.
As per media reports, AP Police had earlier taken away the escort and pilot car privileges from Naidu, leaving him with no special security and privileges on road.
Reaction from TDP
The incident was provoking enough and drew strong reaction from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
One of the TDP leaders and former AP Home Minister Chinna Rajappa tweeted and said that Naidu never faced such treatment though he was in opposition for many years. He asked the Central (BJP) and State (YSR Congress Party) governments to ensure proper security for Naidu as he enjoys 'Z plus' category security.
Why Naidu was given Z+ security?
Naidu was given 'Z plus' category security in 2003 following an attack on him by Maoists at Alipiri, Tirupati. He enjoys Z+ security with 24-hour protection by 23 armed security men and escort vehicles.
Elections come out to be great leveler?
Naidu's sudden loss of power and influence can be attributed to the TDP's poor performance in the Lok Sabha Elections 2019 and the AP Assembly Elections 2019 wherein Naidu's TDP lost to Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy's YSR Congress Party (YSRCP).
