Story 1: Health Ministry forms a Human Chain towards Universal Health Care
The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare along with the World Health Organisation (WHO) on April 4, 2019 formed a Solidarity Human Chain as part of the ‘World Health Day 2019’ celebrations to reaffirm their commitment towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
The theme of World Health Day 2019 is ‘Universal Health Coverage: Everyone, Everywhere’.
Over 17,000 Health and Wellness Centres became operational
• On the same occasion, the Government announced that so far, more than 17,000 Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) are operational across the country under the Ayushman Bharat- Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY).
• These centres are providing services for non-communicable diseases in addition to existing services for reproductive and child health, communicable diseases etc.
• The Ayushman Bharat mission has two components - Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) for Primary Health Care and and the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) for secondary and tertiary care.
• The government seeks to strengthen 1,50,000 health facilities as Health and Wellness Centres to deliver Comprehensive Primary Health Care to people in the rural and urban areas.
Ayushman Bharat - Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY)
• Ayushman Bharat, the government-sponsored health insurance scheme, provides free coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh per family per year in any government or even empanelled private hospitals all over India.
• The Ayushman Bharat programme is funded with 60 percent contribution from the Centre and the remaining from the states.
• The benefit cover includes pre and post-hospitalisation expenses. All pre-existing conditions are covered from day one of the policy.
• A defined transport allowance per hospitalisation is also paid to the beneficiary.
• The payment for treatment is done on package rate which is defined by the Government in advance basis. The package rates include all the costs associated with treatment. The States and UTs have the flexibility to modify these rates within a limited bandwidth.
• For beneficiaries, it is a cashless and paper less transaction.
• Launched with an aim to help the poor and the economically deprived, the scheme is available for 10.74 crore beneficiary families and about 50 crore Indian citizens.
• This scheme aims to strengthen the healthcare services in India through the Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs).
• The scheme also aims to target poor and vulnerable population of the country, based on the Socio Economic and Caste Census 2011 (SECC) database. There will be no cap on family size and age in the scheme.
• The scheme allows the beneficiary to take cashless benefits from any public or private empanelled hospitals across the country.
• The scheme works in partnership with NITI Aayog to operationalise a robust, modular and interoperable IT platform which will involve a paperless and cashless transaction.
• The former 'National Health Agency', the apex body implementing the scheme, launched a website 'mera.pmjay.gov.in' for implementation of the scheme.
Story 2: Nepal-India Franchise Investment Expo and Conclave 2019 to be held in Kathmandu
The Nepal-India Franchise Investment Expo and Conclave will be held during May 15-16, 2019 in Kathmandu.
The conclave will be organised by the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FNCCI) in association with Embassy of India and Franchise India.
Around 250 businesspersons and investors will attend the conclave and more than 1000 prospective franchisees and investors are expected to visit the expo.
• The objective behind the conclave is to build the relations between India and Nepal through entrepreneurship development.
• It is expected to introduce new investment opportunities for Nepalese investors. It will boost the networking between investors of Nepal and India.
• It will help in bringing the leading Indian iconic brands to Nepal, which will directly bring investment into Nepal along with technology transfers and business knowledge.
