Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Council abolished

J&K Legislative Council was abolished on October 18, 2019, making the way for the bifurcation of Jammu & Kashmir State into two Union Territories - Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. The J&K Council was dissolved under Section 57 of the J&K Reorganisation Bill, 2019. With this, the tenure of all the Members of the Legislative Council has come to an end.

Malnutrition causes 69% of children’s death in India: UNICEF Report

The ‘State of the World’s Children’ Report 2019 of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) states that Malnutrition causes around 69 per cent of children’s death in India. As per the report, 149 million children of under 5 age were stunted and around 50 million children were wasted in 2018. The report also throws light on the health of Indian women. It says that every second Indian woman is suffering from anaemia.

Justice SA Bobde to take oath as 47th Chief Justice on 18 Nov; CJI Gogoi initiates appointment process

CJI Ranjan Gogoi on October 18, 2019 recommended the name of Justice SA Bobde for appointment as the next Chief Justice of India. If appointed, Justice Bobde will take the oath of November 18, 2019, a day after the retirement of incumbent CJI Gogoi. Justice Bobde will serve as the 47th Chief Justice of India (CJI) for a total period of one year and five months till April 23, 2021.

Turkey agrees to Syria Ceasefire; Trump hails move as Great Day for Civilization

US Vice President Mike Pence announced that Turkey agrees to Syria Ceasefire, a move hailed by the US President Donald Trump calling it a “Great Day for Civilization”. Turkey's decision on ceasefire came as a reply to President Trump's letter, wherein the latter is seen warning Turkish President Erdogan against invasion of Northeast Syria.
