Ayodhya case is purely a land dispute: Supreme Court

The Supreme Court on February 9, 2018 ruled that the Ram Janambhoomi - Babri Masjid case was purely a "land dispute" and will be dealt with in normal course.

The apex court commenced its final hearings on the Ayodhya dispute on February 8, 2018. The court clarified that it was first inclined to hear those who were parties to the dispute in the Allahabad High Court. It further said that other parties will have to wait as the case before it was a "pure land dispute".

Indra Nooyi appointed as first independent female Director of ICC

PepsiCo Chairman and CEO Indra Nooyi was on February 9, 2018 appointed as the Independent Director of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

With this, Nooyi became the first independent female Director of the ICC. Nooyi will join the ICC Board in June 2018 to align with the term of the ICC Independent Chairman.

The appointment came following the introduction of the appointment of an Independent Director of ICC, who must be female.

NITI Aayog unveils Health Index for states, Kerala, Meghalaya top the list

Niti Aayog on February 9, 2019 released a comprehensive 'Healthy States, Progressive India' report in New Delhi. The health index ranks the states on the basis of their performance on measurable indicators such as infant mortality rate, sex ratio at birth and functional 24x7 public health centres.

The healthy state progressive report ranked Kerala, Punjab and Tamil Nadu at the top among the larger states in terms of overall performance. In terms of annual incremental performance, the states that were ranked at the top three positions in the larger states category included Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh.

New study suggests that air pollution may lead to unethical behaviour

According to a study on adults in India and the US, exposure to air pollution may lead to unethical behaviour such as crime and cheating.

The findings suggest that air pollution does not only impact people's health, but it can also contaminate people’s morality. Previous studies have indicated that exposure to air pollution elevates individuals' feelings of anxiety, which is known to correlate with a range of unethical behaviours.

The researchers found that cities with higher levels of air pollution also tended to have higher levels of crime.

Antony Dominic sworn in as Chief Justice of Kerala

Acting Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court Antony Dominic was on February 9, 2018 sworn in as the Chief Justice of Kerala.

Justice Dominic administered the Oath of Office from Kerala Governor P. Sadasivam in the presence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at Raj Bhavan, Kerala. With this, Justice Dominic became the first Keralite to occupy the post of Chief Justice of Kerala in 17 years. The last Keralite who occupied the top post was Justice KK Usha, who served the court in the year 2001.
