1. (c) Mallikarjun Kharge

The leader of Congress party in Lok Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge has been re-appointed as the Chairman of the 22-member Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament for its fresh term that started on May 1, 2018. A majority of the members of the parliamentary panel, which is headed by an opposition leader, are from the ruling NDA.

2. (b) Pakistan

A group of Indian experts had visited Pakistan to discuss all aspects of bilateral ties and revive the Track II diplomacy process with Islamabad amidst the strain in the relationship after a number of terror attacks in India by Pakistan-based outfits. The original Track II initiative, Neemrana Dialogue, received a fresh start with the visit.

Hockey India on May 1, 2018 appointed women’s hockey coach Harendra Singh as the chief coach of the Indian men’s hockey team, replacing Sjoerd Marijne who will return back to his responsibility as coach of the Indian Women’s Hockey Team.

Gabon's government has resigned after the constitutional court dissolved the national Parliament and called for the country's leadership to step down over election delays. The court stated that the powers of the disbanded National Assembly will be transferred to the upper house Senate until elections are held.

Asha Bhosle was honoured with the Lifetime 26th P C Chandra Puraskaar 2018 at the Science City auditorium in Mumbai, Maharashtra on April 29, 2018. The award carries an honorarium of Rs 10 lakh which is tax exempted.

The multi-nation counter-terrorism exercise “Peace Mission” will be held at the Ural mountains of Russia in September 2018, under the framework of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

10. (d) Sitanshu Kar

Sitanshu Kar, a 1983-batch Indian Information Service (IIS) officer, became the Principal Director General of the Press Information Bureau (PIB). He succeeded Frank Noronha, who had held the post since 2014.

The 15th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBS-2019) will be held in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh from January 21 to January 23, 2019. The event will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Mauritian counterpart Pravind Jugnauth.
