COVID-19 LIVE Updates: The current Covaxin production capacity will be doubled by May-June 2021 and increased by almost 6-7 fold by July-August 2021, informed the Science and Technology Ministry on May 12, 2021.

The Ministry informed that Covaxin's production capacity is expected to reach nearly 10 crore doses per month by Sep 2021. The financial support for the same with be provided by the government in form of a grant worth approximately Rs 65 Cr to Bharat Biotech’s new Bangalore facility.

    PM CARES Fund approves procurement of 1,50,000 units of Oxycare System

    PM CARES Fund has approved procurement of 1,50,000 units of Oxycare System developed by DRDO at a cost of Rs 322.5 Cr.

    The Oxycare system is a SpO2 based Oxygen Supply System, that regulates oxygen being administered to patients based on sensed SpO2 levels.

    This system has been developed by Defence Bio-Engineering & Electro Medical Laboratory (DEBEL), Bengaluru of DRDO for soldiers posted at extreme high-altitude areas.

    IAF C17 Globemaster airlifts 35 tons of COVID medical supplies from Frankfurt, Germany

    The IAF C17 Globemaster, which was tasked to airlift 35 tons of COVID medical supplies from Frankfurt, Germany, got airborne from Hindon airbase early morning on May 11 and landed at Frankfurt airport Germany after a 12 hours flight.

    After loading the supplies, the aircraft departed for Mumbai airport on the same day and reached after about 10 hours of flying.

    PM Modi will not attend G7 summit in person due to COVID situation in India

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to not attend the G7 Summit in person this time, in the wake of the prevailing COVID-19 situation in India. This was informed by Union Ministry of External Affairs on May 11, 2021.

    The MEA statement read, "While appreciating the invitation to the Prime Minister by UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson to attend the G7 Summit as a Special Invitee, given the prevailing COVID situation, it has been decided that the Prime Minister will not attend the G7 Summit in person."

    The UK PM has invited India, Australia, South Korea and South Africa as guest countries for this year's G7 Summit, which will be held in the UK from June 11 to 13. The G7 includes US, UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Japan.

    Delhi airport to shut its T2 Terminal from May 17

    The Delhi international airport will shut down its T2 terminal from midnight of May 17 as number of flights have reduced significantly due to second COVID wave.

    All flight operations from Terminal 2 of Indira Gandhi International Airport will be shifted to Terminal 3 (T3) from the intervening night of May 17-18 due to a fall in passenger traffic. So all GoAir and IndiGo airlines will shift operations to T3, informed DIAL officials.

    According to Union Health Ministry, India has been registering over three lakh recoveries daily from the past many days. The national recovery rate has improved to 83.04 per cent.

    The Health Ministry informed that over 3, 55,000 patients recovered from this infectious disease within the last 24 hours.

    Over 17 crore vaccine doses administered so far: Govt

    The Union Health Ministry informed recently that over 17 crore 51 lakh COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in country so far. These include over 95 lakh 81 thousand Healthcare Workers who have been given the first dose and over 65 lakh Health care workers who have been administered the second dose.

    Among frontline workers, over 1 crore have been given the first dose and about 79 lakh have been given the 2nd dose.

    Besides this, over 23 lakh 85 thousand beneficiaries were vaccinated in the past day.

    India reported 3,48,421 new COVID-19 cases and 4205 deaths in the last 24 hours, as per Union Health Ministry. The death toll in the past 24 hours in the highest recorded till now.

    India also recorded 3,55,338 discharges in the last 24 hours. India's total coronavirus case load stands at 2,33,40,938, which includes 37,04,099 active cases, 1,93,82,642 recoveries and 2,54,197 deaths.

    13 states have more than 1 lakh active COVID-19 cases each: Health Ministry

    The Health Ministry said on May 12, 2021 that 13 states have more than 1 lakh active COVID-19 cases each and around 26 states/ UTs have a positivity rate of over 15 per cent. Goa has the maximum case positivity rate of 49.6 per cent, followed by Maharashtra that has a positivity rate of 22.5 per cent. India's positivity rate is around 21 per cent.
