Karnataka Lockdown Announced for 14-days: As per the latest update, the Karnataka State Government has announced state-wide lockdown or curfew for the next 14-days in the wake of the rapidly rising COVID-19 cases in the state. Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa announced that the decision was taken today at a cabinet meeting after reviewing the prevailing situation. As part of the Karnataka COVID Lockdown, essential services have been allowed to operate only for 4 hours in the morning i.e. from 6 AM to 10 AM, post which all shops, including those providing essential services would be closed down. During the 15-day lockdown, all public transport will also remain suspended. Earlier in the day, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that the state would be providing free vaccines to all the citizens of the state free of cost as part of its efforts in fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.

While the country grapples to overcome the 2nd Wave of COVID-19, Health Ministry officials in today evening’s press conference has called for rational use of Oxygen, Medicine and other crucial resources. MoHFW today said that rational use of oxygen, appropriate prescription of drugs such as Remdesivir, Tocilizumab is critical in the fight against the pandemic. Furthermore, officials also noted that India has enough medical oxygen available, the challenge is to transport it to hospitals. To address this, the country is sourcing oxygen tankers from abroad on a purchase or hiring basis.

26 Apr 04:57 PMActive Cases to cross 38-48 lakh, Daily Peak of 4.4 lakh in May, hints IIT Study
Even as India scrambles to augment health infrastructure to support COVID-19 fight, a latest study done by IIT researchers have suggested a grim future ahead. As per the study, active cases in the ongoing second Covid-19 wave in India may peak at 38-48 lakh between 14th to 18th May 2021. The same study also predicts that the upward trend in the daily cases being reports in the country is going to continue for a while and would peak with a high of 4.4 lakh daily new cases between 4th to 5th May 2021.
The study which has been jointly compiled by scientists from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur and Hyderabad has used Susceptible, Undetected, Tested (positive), and Removed Approach' (SUTRA) model to predict that active cases would go up further by over 10 lakh by mid-May.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today met with Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat today and reviewed preparedness of Defence forces to support India’s fight against COVID-19 pandemic. During the meeting, CDS General Bipin Rawat informed PM that the all medical personnel from armed forces, who have retired in last 2 years, including those who have opted for voluntary retirement, are being re-called to support medical services throughout the country. As per the latest update, the United States of America (USA) has dispatched over three hundred oxygen concentrators to India as emergency aid and supply to the country. Media reports have also confirmed that Air India's A102 is transporting five tonnes (5000kg) of oxygen concentrators, which are scheduled to land in Delhi by Monday noon.
