Lok Sabha Election Results 2019: The Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance has taken India by storm by winning a whopping 349 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections. The BJP has breached through even those states, where the regional parties had a stronghold such as Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, along with the whole of northeast.

The election was conducted to elect people’s representatives for the 17th Lok Sabha. While 22 states and Union Territories saw single-phase polling in the polls, the states of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal saw polling in all seven phases, considering their huge population and vast geographical area.

The voting for the seventh and final phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2019 was held on May 19 in 59 constituencies across 7 States and a Union Territory. The seventh phase holds significance for PM Narendra Modi who is seeking re-election from Varanasi. The Prime Minister had won in Varanasi by over 3.5 lakh votes in 2014.

Lok Sabha Election Schedule

Phase I: April 11

In the first phase, elections were held in 91 Parliamentary constituencies, across 18 States and 2 Union Territories.

The phase covered all parliamentary constituencies of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, and Uttarakhand and some of Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Manipur, Odisha, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

Over 14 crore 20 lakh and 54 thousand voters polled to decide fate of 1279 candidates in this phase.

Key leaders: Nitin Gadkari (Nagpur), Kiren Rijiju (Arunachal West), General VK Singh (Ghaziabad), Satyapal Singh (Baghpat) and Mahesh Sharma (Gautam Buddha Nagar).

Phase 2: April 18

In the second phase, elections were held in 95 Parliamentary constituencies, across 12 States and 1 Union Territory.

The phase covered some parliamentary constituencies of Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Manipur, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

Over 15 crore 79 lakh and 34 thousand voters voted to decide fate of 1629 candidates and around 1 lakh 81 thousand polling booths were made ready for smooth conduct of polls.

In Uttar Pradesh, polling was held in 8 Lok Sabha constituencies including Nagina, Amroha, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Hathras, Mathura, Agra and Fatehpur Sikri with 85 candidates in fray.

Phase 3: April 23

The third phase of Lok Sabha polls saw voting for 117 parliamentary constituencies across 13 states and 2 Union Territories. It was the biggest phase of the 2019 General Elections.

The polling was held for 14 seats each in Maharashtra and Karnataka; 10 in Uttar Pradesh; 7 in Chhattisgarh; 6 in Odisha; 5 each in Bihar and West Bengal; 4 in Assam; 2 in Goa; 1 each in Jammu and Kashmir, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu and Tripura.

Besides, single phase polling was held for 26 parliamentary constituencies of Gujarat and 20 constituencies of Kerala.

Key candidates: Mulayam Singh Yadav, Santosh Gangwar, Jaya Prada, Varun Gandhi, Shivpal Yadav and Ajam Khan.

Phase 4: April 29

In this phase, the polls were held for 72 parliamentary seats across 9 states.

The phase covered 17 seats in Maharashtra, 13 seats each in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, 8 in West Bengal, 6 each in Madhya Pradesh and Odisha, 5 in Bihar and 3 in Jharkhand.

This phase saw the end of polling in constituencies of Maharashtra and Odisha.

Key Candidates: Union Ministers Giriraj Singh, SS Ahluwalia, Babul Supriyo, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, PP Chaudhary, Subhash Bhamre and Sudershan Bhagat, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav's wife Dimple Yadav, Congress’ Salman Khurshid, film actor Urmila Matondkar, BJP Bihar unit chief Nityanand Roy and RLSP chief Upendra Kushwaha.

Phase 5: May 6

The voting for the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha Elections 2019 was held on May 6, 2019 in 51 constituencies spread over seven states.

The polling was held for 14 seats in Uttar Pradesh, 12 in Rajasthan, 7 each in Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal, 5 in Bihar and 4 in Jharkhand. In Jammu and Kashmir, polling took place in Pulwama and Shopian districts of Anantnag and Ladakh constituencies.

Key Candidates: Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Smriti Irani, Rajyavardhan Rathore, Arjun Ram Meghwal and Jayant Sinha, BJP leaders Rajiv Pratap Rudy and Arjun Munda and Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Jitin Prasad.

With this phase, elections were over in 424 Lok Sabha seats.

Phase 6: May 12

In this phase, the polling was held in 59 Constituencies across 7 states including Delhi.

The phase covered 14 seats in Uttar Pradesh, all 10 seats in Haryana, all 7 seats in Delhi, 8 seats each in West Bengal, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh and 4 seats in Jharkhand.

Key candidates: Union Ministers Radha Mohan Singh, Maneka Gandhi, Harsh Vardhan, Narendra Singh Tomar, Krishan Pal Gurjar and Rao Inderjit Singh, Congress leaders Jyotiraditya Scindia, Digvijay Singh, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Sheila Dikshit, Arvinder Singh Lovely, Vijender Singh, SP President Akhilesh Yadav, Gautam Gambhir, Manoj Tiwari and Sadhvi Pragya Thakur.

The phase will also decide the fate of cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir, Delhi BJP President Manoj Tiwari, SP president Akhilesh Yadav, and Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur.
