  • Union Sports Ministry Liberalised Import Procedures

    The Indian Union Sports Ministry on 28 Jan 2010 liberalised and rationalised the procedures for importing weapons and ammunition and the resale of used weapons by renowned shooters. The earlier procedure was time consuming and caused escalation of the cost of import.

    India exited the Asia-Oceania Junior Fed Cup under-16 tennis tournament in Kuching, Malaysia, on 29 April 2010 after being defeated by Malaysia. The countries that won their quarterfinals and qualified for the World Group competition to be staged in Mexico in September 2010 were- Japan, China, Uzbekistan and Australia.

  • Virender Sehwag Named Wisden Cricketer of the Year

    Indian opener Virender Sehwag was in April 2010 named Wisden Cricketer of the Year for the second time in a row. He had competiton from England captain Andrew Strauss and Sri Lankan Tillakaratne Dilshan. Sehwag had a strike-rate of 108.9, in the Tests he played in 2009.
