Poonia who is a medical officer in the President’s body guard became the first Indian to not only participate but also win three medals at the World Medical and Health Games held in Porec, Croatia

  • Seepani Yamini

    Weightlifter Seepani Yamini from Andhra Pradesh was recently suspended for two years for an anti-doping rule violation. The National Anti-Doping Disciplinary panel suspended Yamini for two years from the date of sample collection (10 October 2009) for testing positive for steroid stanozolol in an out-of-competition test.

  • Mark Webber won British Grand Prix

    The Formula One racer Mark Webber of Australia won British Grand Prix on 11 June 2010 after overtaking Red Bull teammate Sebastian Vettel. Webber finished 1.36 seconds ahead of championship leader Lewis Hamilton of McLaren in second.

  • Mahendra Singh Dhoni

    Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni on 12 July 2010 signed a marketing deal worth $42 million over two years with Indian sports management company Rhiti. The company would now handle all of Dhoni’s endorsements, merchandise, corporate profile, patents and digital rights, as well as visibility on social networking sites.

  • Spain Topped FIFA ranking

    According to latest FIFA ranking, football World Cup champions, Spain moved up to 1st position. Brazil who was previously at number 1 position fell to the 3rd position. The runners-up of the FIFA World Cup 2010 moved from the 4th to the 2nd position.

  • R.K. Khanna Tennis Complex Inaugurated

    Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. M. S. Gill inaugurated an upgraded R.K. Khanna Tennis Complex on 11 July 2010. For the first time tennis as a medal sport would be introduced in the Commonwealth Games and R.K. Khanna Tennis Complex would serve as the venue for Tennis competition for the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games.

  • Yuki Bhambri- Entered Tennis Event in Youth Olympic Games

    Former World No.1 junior, Yuki Bhambri was given an entry in the boys section of the tennis event in the Youth Olympic Games scheduled to be played in Singapore from 15 to 21 August 2010. He is the only Indian entry in the event.

  • Queen's Baton Entered India

    The Queen's Baton entered India from Pakistan on 25 June 2010 through the Attari-Wagah border, marking the 100-day countdown to the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. The baton was handed over by Pakistan Olympic Association president Syed Arif Hassan to Indian Commonwealth Games organising committee (OC) chairman Suresh Kalmadi.

  • BCCI Cancelled Agreement with WSG

    The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in June 2010 cancelled its media rights deal with World Sports Group (WSG) with immediate effect. The decision was taken to this effect as a result of “improper payment” of facilitation fee worth Rs 425 crore from Multi-Screen Media (MSM).

    Amanda Sobhy from US won the finals of the women's World junior individual squash championship by defeating Egyptian rival Nour El Tayeb in the final on 29 June 2010. She is the first US winner of the prestigious World Squash Federation event.

    Sri Lankan cricketer of repute, Muttiah Muralitharan who has 792 test wickets put an end to his test cricket innings in July 2010. He decided to retire from test cricket after the second test match with India scheduled to begin in Sri Lanka on 18 July 2010.

  • Caster Semenya to Return to Athletics

    The International Association of Athletics Federations after reviewing the results of gender verification tests allowed the South African athlete Caster Semenya to compete as a woman in athletic events. The gender verification process was initiated in 2009 after issues related to her gender came to the forefront. She will return to competition at the world junior championships in Moncton, New Brunswick scheduled to begin from 19 July 2010.

  • Valero Texas Open golf tournament

    Adam Scott of Australia won the title at the Valero Texas Open golf tournament on 17 May 2010 with a total of 14-under 274. Indian golfer Arjun Atwal of India tied 17th in the final round.
