    Srikanth, Sindhu win top awards at Indian Sports Honours 2017

    The Inaugural edition of the Indian Sports Honours, which was held in Mumbai, saw Kidambi Srikanth and P V Sindhu grab the top honours.

    While ace shuttler Srikanth, who won four Super Series titles this year, won the Sportsman of the Year award, Rio Olympics silver medallist Sindhu won the Sportswoman of the Year award in the individual sport category.

    In the team sport category, Ravichandran Ashwin, who recently achieved the feat of becoming the fastest bowler to reach 'Club 300' in Test cricket, was awarded Sportsman of the Year award, while women's cricket team captain Mithali Raj was awarded Sportswoman of the Year award.

    The Indian Women's Cricket Team, which was the runners-up in the ICC Women's World Cup 2017, was named the ‘Team of the Year’.

    Other awards included ’Coach of the year’, which went to Bisveshwar Nandi, who was the coach of gymnast Dipa Karmakar. The ‘Emerging Sportswoman of the year’ went to golfer Aditi Ashok and the ‘Emerging Sportsman of the year’ went to athlete Neeraj Chopra.

    In the differently abled category, the ‘Differently abled Sportsman of the year’ award went to Indian Paralympic javelin thrower Devendra Jhajaria and ‘Differently abled Sportswoman of the year’ went to Paralympic athlete Deepa Malik.

    While star tennis player Sania Mirza was awarded the Inspirational Honour by the jury, country's first Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra was honoured with the Transformational Contribution to Sport award.

    The Indian Sports Honours is a joint initiative by Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Sanjiv Goenka to support the development of Indian sports.
