Saudi Aramco to acquire 20 percent stake in Reliance oil to chemical business

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) Chairman Mukesh Ambani announced on August 12 that Saudi Aramco would be acquiring 20 percent stake in RIL’s oil refinery and chemical business at a value of $75 billion or over 5.3 lakh crore. The RIL-Saudi Aramco deal would be one of India’s largest foreign direct investment deals to date. Under the deal, Saudi Aramco will buy 20 percent stake in a proposed special purpose vehicle (SPV) housing RIL’s twin refineries as well as its petrochemical complex.

The Trump administration announced new rules on August 12 that aim to deny US citizenship and permanent residency to the immigrants who use public benefits such as food stamps, public health care and other public welfare services. Under the new rules, those already in the US and availing public benefits will be denied the opportunity of getting the green card. The rules come as a set back to the citizenship hopes of millions of migrants, mostly Hispanic, who work in the US for low wages and depend heavily on public welfare benefits.

The petitioner Tehseen Poonawalla stated in his petition that he was not expressing any opinion on the revoking of Article 370 but simply seeking withdrawal of the curfew and restrictions on communication such as blocking of telephone lines, internet and news channels in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry launched the Swachh Survekshan 2020 (SS 2020), the fifth edition of the annual cleanliness survey. The Swachh Nagar Mobile App was also launched on the occasion. The app features tracking of waste collection by ULBs through route and vehicle monitoring, notification to citizens, online collection of user fee for waste collection and an effective grievance redressal mechanism.
