    1. (c) Saudi Arabia

    The Gulf Shield – 1 military exercise of 23 countries including Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states was held in Eastern Region of Saudi Arabia. It was organised by Ministry of Defence of Saudi Arabia. The one month long exercise was largest military drill in the region, as it saw participation of ground, naval and air forces of the participating countries.

    2. (b) Katrina Kaif

    Indian actress Katrina Kaif has been named as the new ambassador of the international award-winning non-profit organisation, Educate Girls. For over a decade now, the NGO has been partnering with the Indian government in bringing out-of-school girls back to school.

    3. (a) Karnataka

    The Karnataka state government has decided to recognise the Lingayat community as a religious minority, leaving the final decision with the centre. The Lingayats are worshippers of Shiva and have distanced themselves from traditional Hinduism, especially from the Vedic version and the caste system.

    Bihar Governor Satya Pal Malik was given the additional charge as the Governor of Odisha on March 20, 2018, following the completion of tenure of the state’s present governor Dr. SC Jamir. A communique issued by the President's Secretariat said Malik will discharge the additional functions until regular arrangements are made.

    The first National workshop on Poshan Abhiyaan was held in New Delhi on March 20, 2018 to implement the campaign in a fast track mode across the country. The day-long event saw participation from all the states and union territories.

    India on March 20, 2018 handed over the 18th and last diesel railway locomotive engine to Myanmar, thus executing a key project ahead of time as part of efforts to boost ties with the neighbour. The 18 locomotives are fitted with microprocessor control-based system, attaining a maximum speed of 100 km per hour and are customised for Myanmar Railways.

    The two-day Informal World Trade Organisation (WTO) ministerial meeting began in New Delhi on March 19, 2018. Representatives from 50 countries are participating in the meet.

    The first phase of Indo-French joint naval exercise ‘Varuna 2018’ kickstarted at the Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) in Vasco, Goa on March 19, 2018. The exercise is being held in the Arabian Sea off the Goa coast.

    The Ministry of AYUSH will organise the 2018 International Yoga Fest at the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga in New Delhi from March 21, 2018. The fest is a curtain raiser for International Yoga Day-2018, which is celebrated on the 21st June.

    10. (d) New Delhi

    Rajiv Kumar, the Vice-Chairman of NITI Aayog, inaugurated the first-ever India-Japan Workshop on Disaster Risk Reduction in New Delhi on March 19, 2018. The 2-day workshop is being jointly organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Government of Japan.

    11. (a) Haryana

    After Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, the Haryana Assembly passed a bill seeking to give capital punishment to those found guilty of raping girls aged 12 years or below. The bill amends provisions under Section 376 (rape), Section 354 (assault or criminal force against woman with intent to outrage her modesty), and Section 354D (2) (stalking) of the Indian Penal Code.

    12. (b) N Chandrasekran

    Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekran was elected as the 8th President of the court of Indian Institute of Science (IISc) for the year 2018-21.
