1. (a) Gautam Gambhir
After over 15 years of successful career in Indian cricket, Indian Opener Gautam Gambhir on December 4, 2018 announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. Gautam Gambhir was one of the most complete batsmen who opened well in all three forms of the game – Test matches, ODIs and T20s.

2. (b) Delhi
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on December 5, 2018 launched the 'Mukhyamantri Tirth Yatra Yojana' which offers free travel packages for senior citizens from Delhi to five religious circuits. 1,100 senior citizens from every constituency of Delhi will be able to avail this facility at one go.

After assessing the current and evolving macroeconomic situation in the economy, the six members Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) decided to keep the policy Repo Rate under the Liquidity Adjustment Facility (LAF) unchanged at 6.5 percent in its Fifth Bi-monthly Monetary Policy Statement 2018-19.

Union Minister for Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Nitin Gadkari inaugrated India Water Impact Summit 2018, jointly organised by the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) and the Centre for Ganga River Basin Management and Studies (cGanga) in New Delhi.

The 80th Session of the Policy Commission of the World Customs Organization (WCO) was held in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The Session was being organised by the WCO and hosted by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), India.

The first-ever bilateral air exercise “EX SHINYUU Maitri-2018” started between Japanese Air Self Defence Force (JASDF) and Indian Air Force at AF Station Agra in Uttar Pradesh. The IAF is participating with An-32 and C-17 aircraft with aircrew & observers.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik recently announced a new initiative ‘PEETHA’ to create awareness about various government schemes and improve transparency. It also aims at improving transparency in the distribution of individual and social benefits. The acronym ‘PEETHA’ stands for Peoples Empowerment Enabling Transparency and Accountability.

8. (d) Ajay Narayan Jha
Ajay Narayan Jha, a 1982-batch IAS officer of Manipur Tripura cadre, was appointed as the new Finance Secretary of India. He succeeded Hasmukh Adhia. The Finance Secretary is the Permanent Secretary-level civil servant, who plays a leadership role in the bureaucracy of the Finance Ministry.
