Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced on August 31, 2021 that the state will become the first in the country to supply water free of cost to its citizens. The state has launched 'Save Water to Get Free Water' scheme under which households will not be charged for consumption up to 16,000 litres.

The Indian government has launched Bharat (BH) series number plates for vehicles to provide relief to vehicle owners and help them avoid the hassle of transferring registration certificates for vehicles while relocating to a different state. The BH number plate will come into effect from September 15, 2021.

Avani Lekhara has become the first Indian woman to win gold at the Paralympics. The 19-year-old created a Paralympics record by equaling the world record held by Ukraine’s Iryna Shchetnik with a score of 249.6 that was set in 2018.

The central government had prepared the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) in 2009 and had requested the states to prepare their own specific plans. Taliban has banned co-education in Afghanistan, merely days after it had assured to respect women's rights in the country. 'Men not allowed to teach girls,' said the newly appointed Taliban Higher Education Minister Shaikh Abdul Baqi Haqqani.

Dale Steyn, who is one of the greatest pacers to have played cricket announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on August 31, 2021. The South African cricketer had bid adieu to the longest format in 2019 but continued to play in ODIs and T20Is.
