List of Top 10 Youngest Grand Masters of the World

About Grand Master Title:

Grandmaster is the highest title a chess player can attain. This award is given by the highest governing body of chess i.e. FIDE. If the award of grandmaster once achieved, the title is held for life.

However, the "World Chess Federation" has made some rules for it, if a player is found guilty of "cheating and corruption", then the title can be snatched from him.

Till August 2018 FIDE rating list includes 1621 grandmasters, out of which 1585 are male and 36 are females. The World Chess Federation has awarded the title of Grand Master only to just 0.3% players registered with it.

Eligibility to become Grand Master;

To become a Grand Master, a chess player has to get at least 2500 "Elo rating". However, to maintain the title of the Grand Master, it is not necessary for the player to retain this rating.

D. Gukesh became the youngest Grand Master in India who achieved this feat at the age of 12 Year,7 months, 17 days. Before Gukesh; R. Praggnanandhaa was the youngest Grand Master in India who achieved this feat at the age of 12 Year, 10 months, 13 days.

It’s interesting to see that there are 3 Indian boys in the top 10 list of youngest chess grandmasters. It is worth to mention here that as of now there are 60 chess grandmasters in India. Viswanathan Anand was the first grandmaster of India. Anand achieved this feat in 1988. I hope that in the coming years India will produce more Chess grandmasters.
