Who is the PIL Man of India?

Delhi BJP spokesperson Ashwini Upadhyay is famous as the PIL Man of India. Ashwini Upadhyay has filed around 50 PILs in the last 5 years. He is a practicing advocate by profession. The most highlighted PILs filed by  Ashwani were related to instant Triple Talaq, Polygamy,  Nikah Halala marriages among Muslims and to implement Uniform Civil Code for all citizens throughout the country.

Now before moving forward let us understand  the meaning of PIL?

According to Black's Law Dictionary- "Public Interest Litigation means a legal action initiated in a court of law to provide equal protection to every person of the country without any discrimination of class,sex, caste,religion and poor/rich".

Objectives Of PIL

The aim of PIL is to give access to the courts to the common/poor people of this country to obtain legal help. So PIL is a process, of obtaining justice for the people for voicing the people’s grievances through the legal process. 

Any citizen can approach the court for the public cause (in the interests of the public or public welfare) by filing a petition:

1. In Supreme Court under Article 32 of the Constitution

2. In High Court under Article 226 of the Constitution

3. In the Court of Magistrate under Section 133, Cr. P.C
