Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) is a sports initiative by Mashal Sports Pvt. Ltd and Star India Pvt. Ltd. This league is backed by the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI) and also supported by the Asian Kabaddi Federation (AKF) and members of the International Kabaddi Federation (IKF). The Administrator of the Pro Kabaddi League is AAR Sports.

PKL has revolutionised the sports culture in India. PKL is like other leagues (Indian Premier League, Premier Badminton League, Indian Super League) played in the country.

Now lets know some interesting facts about the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL);

1. There are 6 seasons of the PKL are completed and 7th is in progress.

2. Patna Pirates is the most successful team which has won 3 titles.

3. There are 12 teams participating in the 7th edition of this league.

4. Bengaluru Bulls is the current champion of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL). This is the first title of this team.

5. The very first match of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) was played  between U Mumba and Jaipur Pink Panthers on July 26, 2014.

6. There are 8 teams participated in the first edition of the Pro Kabaddi League.

7. Format of the league is Double round-robin league and playoffs.

8. The rules of the Pro Kabaddi League are same as the indoor team version of Kabaddi. 

9. To increase the interest in the tournament; "empty" raids in a row will trigger a "do-or-die raid", where the raider must score a point otherwise he would be declared out.

11. Prize Money:

Although the Prize money is not a big amount in this league like IPL but is encouraging. The winning team of season 6 got Rs. 3 crore while first and second runners-up were awarded Rs. 1.8 crore and ₹ 1.2 crore respectively.

12.Costliest Player (Indian): In the 6th season of PKL Haryana Steelers paid INR 1.51 Crores for Monu Goyat. Monu became the highest paid player in the history of Pro Kabaddi League.

13. Costliest Player (Foreigner): The most expensive foreign player in the Pro Kabaddi League is "Fazel Atrachali" (Iran). He was bought by U Mumba for INR 1 crore.

So the inception of the Pro Kabaddi league is a new phenomenon in the area of sports. I hope that more sporting leagues like this will come out and India will shine as a new sport giant at the international level in the years to come.
