Indian cricketers did not play any match despite being in the World Cup team

The 12th ICC Cricket World Cup has been inaugurated on May 30, 2019 in England and Wales. There are 10 teams participating in this ICC World Cup. In the World Cup 2019, India has sent a 15-member team. But there is a possibility that some players may not get chance to play any match in the whole World Cup as it has been observed in the past World Cups also.

The ICC cricket World Cup is held at the gap of every 4 years. Every player who is selected in his 15 members’ team has dream to play for his country but the team management can select just 11 players in the playing eleven. So some players left out of the team despite being in the 15 members’ squad.

In this article we have compiled such players of the Indian teams who were chosen in the 15 member team but did not get chance to play single match in the full ICC World Cup tournament. These players are compiled from the 11 different ICC World Cups.

1. Bharat Reddy (1979):

Right-handed wicket-keeper batsman Bharat Reddy was included as a reserve wicket-keeper in the 13-member Indian team that participated in the second World Cup held in 1979 but he did not get a chance to play a single match.

In his ODI career from 1978 to 1981, Bharat Reddy played 3 matches and scored 11 runs. His highest score was 8 runs not out. In addition to this he also caught 2 catches as a wicketkeeper.

2. Sunil Walson (1983)

Right-handed batsman and right-arm fast bowler Sunil Walson was included in the 13-member Indian team that participated in the third World Cup held in 1983 but he did not get a chance to play a single match. After this World Cup; Sunil Walson has never been included in the Indian team due to which he could never play international cricket.

Sunil Walson played 75 matches in his first-class cricket career from 1977 to 1988. Currently Sunil Walson is the manager of the IPL team "Delhi Capital".

3. Amaya Khurshia (1999)

Left-handed batsman and right-arm slow bowler Amy Khurshia was included in the 15-member Indian team that participated in the seventh World Cup held in 1999 but he did not get a chance to play a single match.

In his one-day career from 1999 to 2001, Amya Khurshia scored 149 runs in 12 games with an average of 14.54. He scored 1 fifty and his highest score was 57 runs. Apart from this, he also caught 3 catches in his ODI career.

4. Sanjay Bangar (2003)

Right-handed batsman and right-handed middle-order bowler Sanjay Bangar was included in the 15-member Indian team that participated in the eighth World Cup held in 2003 but he did not get a chance to play a single match.

Sanjay Bangar, the current batting coach of the Indian cricket team, played a total of 15 matches in his ODI career from 2002 to 2004. In these 15 matches, he scored 180 runs at an average of 13.84, including 1 fifty and his highest score was 57 runs Not Out. Apart from this, Sanjay Bangar picked up 7 wickets in his ODI career. His best bowling figure was 2 wickets for 39 runs.

5. Parthiv Patel (2003)

Left-handed wicketkeeper batsman Parthiv Patel was among the 15-member Indian team that participated in the eighth World Cup held in 2003 but Parthiv did not get a chance to play a single match.

Parthiv Patel played a total of 38 matches in his ODI career from 2002 to 2011. In these 38 matches, he scored 736 runs with an average of 23.74 which includes 4 fifties and his highest score was 95 runs. Apart from this, Parthiv Patel took 30 catches as wicketkeeper and stumped 9 players.

6. Irfan Pathan (2007)

The Left-handed batsman and left-arm fast bowler Irfan Pathan was included in the 15 member Indian team that participated in the 9th World Cup held in 2007 but he did not get a chance to play a single match.

The swing bowler Irfan Pathan has played 120 matches in his ODI career from 2004 to 2012. In these 120 matches, he scored 1544 runs with the average of 23.39, which includes 5 fifties and his highest score was 83 runs.

Apart from this, Irfan Pathan bagged 173 wickets and his best bowling figure was 5/27. Irfan Pathan has taken 21 catches in his ODI career.

7. Dinesh Karthik (2007):

Karthik did not get a chance to play a single match in the 2007 World Cup despite being in the 15 member squad. Kartik has played 91 matches in his one-day cricket career; he scored 1738 runs at an average of 31.04. Dinesh Karthik has scored 9 half centuries as well.

Karthik has been included in the current World Cup 2019 team. Let's see whether Karthik gets an opportunity to play in World Cup 2019.

8. Ambati Rayudu (2015)

Right-handed middle-order batsman Ambati Rayudu was part of the 15-member Indian team that participated in the 11th World Cup held in 2015 but he did not get a chance to play a single match. Ambati Rayudu was a strong contender for being selected in the 2019 World Cup but Vijay Shankar was selected.

Ambati Rayudu has played 55 matches in his ODI career from 2013 to 2019. In these 55 matches, he has scored 1694 runs at an impressive average of 47.06, including 3 centuries and 10 fifties and his highest score is 124 Not Out. In addition, Ambati Rayudu has also taken 3 wickets and 14 catches in his ODI career.

9. Akshar Patel (2015)

The left-handed batsman and left-handed spin bowler, Akshar Patel, was in the 15-member Indian squad of the 11th World Cup held in 2015 but he did not get a chance to play even a single match.

Spin bowler Akshar Patel played a total of 38 matches in his ODI career from 2014 to 2017. In these 38 matches, he has taken 45 wickets. His best bowling figure is 3/34.

Akshar Patel has scored 181 runs at an average of 12.92 and his highest score is 38 runs. Akshar Patel has also caught 15 catches in his ODI career.

10. Stuart Binny (2015)

Right-arm batsman and right-arm fast bowler Stuart Binny was included in the 15-member Indian team for the 11th ICC World Cup held in 2015 but he did not get a chance to play a single game.

Stuart Binny has played 14 ODIs in his career since 2014. Binny has scored 230 runs at an average of 28.75 which includes 1 fifty and his highest score was 77 runs. Binny's best bowling figure is 4/20. In addition to this binny has taken 20 wickets in his ODI career.

In the conclusion it can be said that which player will be included in the playing eleven depends on many conditions like weather, pitch, opposite team and the requirement of the team. So if any player gets the chance to play for his country this is the moment of pride for him and his country as well.
