Indian Institute of Technology, Jodhpur was established in 2008 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). Apart from IIT Jodhpur, earlier known as IIT Rajasthan, seven more IITs were set up including IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Bhubaneswar, IIT Patna, IIT Ropar, and IIT Mandi among others. All the aforementioned IITs started functioning from 2008 onwards. IIT Jodhpur has mainly 11 departments namely, Chemistry, Bioscience & Bioengineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Civil Engineering, Humanities & Social Sciences and Mechanical Engineering to name a few.
IIT Jodhpur aims to create competent technology graduates ready to take on challenges in the corporate world. The institute mission is to create a technology institute that promotes research, learning, innovation and invention.
