National Institute of Technology, Durgapur which was formerly known as Regional Engineering College, Durgapur was established in the year 1960 under the Act of Parliament and was opened with an aim to foster engineering education in the country. The Institute specialises in disseminating B.Tech., M.C.A., M.Sc., M.B.A.,M.Tech. and Ph.D. degrees to students in the disciplines of Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering etc. NIT is a member of AIU and the board of NIT comprises of members from eminent bodies such as AICTE, IIT etc.
