About Institute

The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Tiruchirappalli was formerly known as Regional College of Engineering is situated on the banks of river Cauvery in Tamil Nadu. The institute was founded as a joint and co-operative venture between the Government of India and Government of Tamil Nadu in the year 1964. The institute was conferred with autonomy in financial and administrative matters to achieve rapid development. It was also granted the Deemed University Status in the year 2003 when it renamed the National Institute of Technology.
