CBSE Class 10 Results 2019: Chandigarh Govt Schools record pass percentage of 75.27, improvement of 26.76 percent

CBSE Class 10 Result 2019: The CBSE yesterday declared the class 10 board examination result. Chandigarh Government schools have recorded an improvement in the Class 10 CBSE results with a record pass percentage of 75.27 percent compared to the 48.51 percentage the previous year.

Education Secretary B L Sharma stated that this was the reward and punishment policy along with administrative decisions which led to this remarkable improvement. The previous year Sharma was faced with opposition from within the department for acting tough by suspending non-performing teachers and taking affidavits for improving results this year.

This year, a total of 10.587 students appeared for the examination out of which 7,969 students passed the examination and 371 failed. There were 2.247 students who got compartment. Government Model High School, Dhanas, which had a pass percentage of just 19.79 in the previous year which was also one among the poor performers, had a pass percentage of 78.97 percentage this year which is an improvement of 59.18 percent.

Government School, Sector 52, which has a pass percentage of 27.35 percent the previous year saw a pass percentage of 89.53 percent this year making an improvement of 62.18 percent. GMHS, Sector 29B which has a pass percentage of 27.69 in the previous year recorded a pass percentage of 86.05 this year.

Other schools which had an improvement this year include Government Schools, Dadumajra which secured a pass percentage of 90 this year compared to the 28.30 pass percentage the previous year. GMHS Sector 32-D secured a pass percentage of 89.22 percent which is an improvement from the 33.64 percent secured in the previous year.

The best performing schools this year included GMSSS, Sector 23 with a pass percentage of 100, followed by GMSSS, Sector 33 with 99.25 percent. GMSSS-18 has a pass percentage of 99.07 while GMSSS-32 recorded a pass percentage of 98.96 and GMSSS018 secured a pass percentage of 98.65.

The Education Secretary also said that the teachers who have helped in improving the scores this year will be given a commendation certificate. He went on to say, that last year was a shock for Chandigarh with just 48 pass percent. “We felt like people are not doing their job- not giving their time and energy for which they were recruited. And we decided to enforce discipline”, he said. He also mentioned that other than issuing a show-cause notice, suspending teachers and taking affidavits from them to improve the results, nine supervisory teams were formed to keep a check if everyone was performing his/her duty well.

The Education secretary went on to scrap the grace marks policy after the poor results the previous year. Teachers had however blamed that the students who did not know anything were being promoted and thus they had poor results in class 10 examinations.
