Coronavirus Live Updates: With the 21-day lockdown in place, mass exodus of migrant labourers across the country have triggered fear of a community outbreak of COVID-19 in the country. In fact, on Saturday and Sunday, India reported lakhs of migrant labourers trying to fee cities due to lack of work amid the 21-day lockdown announced by the central government. Today, SC asked Centre to submit a detailed report highlighting steps taken to stop the mass exodus of migrant labourers amid the COVID-19 Lockdown. On Sunday, India registered 130 fresh cases taking the country’s tally above 1000 mark with death toll rising to 27. Globally, over 6 lakh people have been infected by the novel coronavirus with over 30000 deaths reported world-wide.

    8 Fresh Cases in UP, State Tally reaches to 88

    With addition of 8 fresh cases in the state, Uttar Pradesh’s state tally of positive cases for Coronavirus infection has reached 88. Off the total number of cases, 36 cases have been reported from Noida and Greater Noida i.e. Gautam Buddh Nagar, while 13 cases have been reported from Meerut. A total of 14 COVID-19 patients have recovered from the disease in the state, as per UP principal health secretary AM Prasad.

    Tokyo Olympics rescheduled to July 2021

    The International Olympic Committee along with the organizers of Tokyo Olympics have decided to reschedule the games until July 2021. According an ANI report, Tokyo Olympics 2020 are now rescheduled and will be held from July 23, 2021 to August 8, 2021. Meanwhile, Paralympic Games will be held from August 24, 2021 till September 5, 2021.

    Over 200 people quarantined in Nizamuddin area of Delhi

    Amid rising concerns about community spread of COVID-19, around 200 people have been quarantined in the Nizamuddin area in New Delhi after they developed mild symptoms for Coronavirus infection. Reports suggest that around 500 people attended a religious function on 18th March which also included people from different states and few from foreign countries as well. Currently, Delhi Police has cordoned off the area and deployed drones to ensure strick enforcement of lockdown in the area.

    92 Cases, 4 Deaths in Last 24 Hours: Health Ministry

    Health Ministry in its evening conference confirmed that 92 fresh cases of COVID-19 have been declared in the country in the last 24 hours; taking the overall number of cases to 1071. They also said that the death toll has also grown by 4 in this period, taking the overall number to 29.

    India still in Local Transmission Stage

    Health Ministry also said that, currently, based on the data available with them, India is still in the local transmission stage and has not reported any sudden spur of cases from any particular cluster. Health Ministry officials also said that the ministry will admit that India has entered Community Transmission stage as and when it happens.

    Auto Makers roped in to produce Ventilators

    As per update provided by the Health Ministry officials, the government has approached several automobile manufacturing companies and ask them to check the feasibility of make ventilators to address the shortfall in case the number of Coronavirus infections increases significantly. As per media reports, the Union government has reached out to five automakers -- Tata Motors, Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M), Hyundai Motor India, Honda Cars India and Maruti Suzuki India, to explore the possibility of making ventilators at their plants.

    SC to hear PIL on mass exodus of Migrant Labourers

    The Supreme Court of India has agreed to hear a PIL on the mass exodus of migrant labourers from urban areas and big cities to rural areas. In last two days, major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai and Lucknow have reported mass exodus of migrant labourers who are fleeing urban areas after lack of work amid the 21-day complete lockdown announced by the government. Media reports have also suggested that some of these labourers have walked hundred of kilometres on foot to reach their native place due to unavailability of any public transport facilities.

    UP CM to visit Noida Today

    Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will visit Noida today to review the situation in the satellite town of Delhi. CM Yogi is expected to stake stock of the situation and also check that availability of all essential items is ensured by the government agencies. Noida or Gautam Buddh Nagar is the worst hit district of UP due to COVID-19 with 31 Cases.

    AIIMS Trauma Centre to be converted into COVID-19 Hospital

    AIIMS Delhi is all set to convert its Trauma Centre into a dedicated COVID-19 hospital to handle the influx of large number of Coronavirus cases. AIIMS Delhi Trauma Centre confirmed the development to ANI today morning, in which he said that the AIIMS Trauma Centre is being reshaped as a dedicated centre to handle treatment of novel coronavirus patients

    No plan to extend lockdown beyond 21-days: Govt

    Amid rising number of reports around extension in the lockdown announced by the Central Government if the situation doesn’t improve, the government has issued a clarification saying that it has no such plans currently. The Union Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba in a statement issued to Prasar Bharti News Services (PBNS) has confirmed that the government doesn’t plan to extend the lockdown beyond 21-days i.e. beyond 14th April 2020.
