Coronavirus Live Updates: On Thursday, the total number of positive cases for COVID-19 in India rose above 600 and death toll moved to double digit figures forcing authorities stepped up their efforts to curb the spread of Coronavirus. Today afternoon, FM Niramala Sitharaman also announced Economic Relief package worth Rs 1.7 lakh crore aimed at helping the poor and to ensure Food Security in the country. As India enters day 2 of the national lockdown, states have been instructed by the Central Government to stake stringent steps to ensure that lockdown is followed strictly. Globally, the death toll due to Coronavirus infections rose to 21000 with number of positive cases crossing 4.5 lakh mark. After Italy, Spain also crossed the Chian’s death toll mark with over 3600 reported death due to COVID-19.

RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das announced reduction in Repo Rate for of 75 basis points to to deal with the impact of deadly coronavirus outbbreak on the economy. In line with this, the Reverse Repo Rate was also cut sharply by 90 basis points to 4% today.

With reports of people facing problems in procuring daily necessities and essential commodities, Maharashtra State Home Minister said that there would be no time limit on shops providing these items. He also assured people and the online delivery outlets that their delivery boys will not face any difficulties in delivering essential commodities to the customers.

Along with protecting India, CRPF has also stepped up when it comes to fight against Coronavirus. Media reports have confirmed that all CRPF personnel have decided to donate their 1-day Salary, which will total upto Rs 33 crore, to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund as their contribution in fight against COVID-19 epidemic. In a statement issued by CRPF, the security agency said that “We are dutifully committed to stand firmly with our Nation in this challenging time of COVID-19 spread”

Reports suggest that Assam Government has stepped up its efforts in preparation to tackle the COVID-19 outbreak in the state. As part of this, the state government is planning to setup four temporary hospitals spread across the state to handle positive cases for Coronavirus infections. Apart from the hospitals, the state government is also creating an isolation facility for over 700 persons with separate rooms at Sarusajai Sports Complex, which will be ready within a week.

According to an ANI report, the Central Government has approved door-step delivery of essential medicines and drugs to ensure that people are not required to leave their houses for them during the lockdown. Report also says that the detailed notification to be published soon in the Gazette of India. Until now, medicines and drugs that fall under ‘H’ category and which cannot be purchased without a doctor’s prescription were not allowed to be delivered home. However, now such drugs will be delivered to the people but only after necessary prescription is provided in person or via email or other methods.

Health Ministry officials in today evening’s press conference said that there has no evidence of community transmission of COVID-19 in India so far. According to health ministry, there have been only few cases wherein the source of the infection was found to be untraceable and when we are unable to trace any contact with an infected person or a foreign travel history for one or two cases out of 600 odd-cases, we can't call it community transmission.

Health Ministry in the press meet also informed that centre and state governments were co-ordinating their efforts to curb the spread of disease in the country.
