Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal held a press conference to brief people of Delhi about the latest developments with regards to COVID-19 pandemic in the national capital. He addressed the issue of Nizamuddin West emerging as possible hotspot for Coronavirus infection where a religious congregation was held in mid-March. In his briefing he said that of the total 97 cases reported in Delhi so far, 24 are from Markaz, Nizamuddin. He also added that of those who attended the Nizamuddin gathering, 441 people have been admitted to hospitals while 1,107 have been quarantined.

Indian Railways has transformed around 20,000 coaches into isolation centres for coronavirus patients. The modified coaches have the capacity to accommodate up to 3.2 lakh beds and help in isolation of COVID-19 patients and potential carriers in case the situation worsens. Railways also said that these coaches will be distributed among its 16 zones depending on the need and the situation in the states.

As per media reports, the Department of Molecular & Human Genetics at the Banaras Hindu University, has developed an alternative testing mechanism to test for COVID-19 disease. The new test detects coronavirus infection based on a unique protein sequence that is only found in SARS-CoV-2. The new test can deliver test results within 5 to 6 hours only.

Maharashtra Government has decided to cut salaries of all public representatives for the month of March. As per the announcement made by Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, salaries of all MLCs and MLAs including Chief Minister, will be cut by 60%. On similar lines, the state government has also decided to cut salaries for Grade A and B officers will be deducted by 50% and that of Grade C employees, by 25%. There will not no deductions in salaries of Group D officers.

As per the latest update, the Health Ministry has setup a 24x7 National Teleconsultation centre via a single IVRS Number. The teleconsultation helpline can be reached by dialling 91-9115444155. The centre has been setup at AIIMS, Delhi as a telemedicine hub where people can connect with doctors and experts to resolve their queries about COVID-19. The Teleconsultation centre will act as a source of verified and authentic information about coronavirus pandemic and help people steer clear of fake news and misinformation.

During hearing of a plea on exodus of migrant labourers from cities to rural areas amid the COVID-19 lockdown, the Central Government informed apex court that all migrant workers who were on road trying to reach their native place, have been accommodated at the nearest shelter homes. The central government also assured the court that there is no migrant worker who is travelling on foot or by any other means amid the 21-day lockdown. Solicitor General also informed the apex court that nearly 22 lakh 88 thousand migrant labourers, poor and daily wagers are being provided food and shelter after being stopped enroute to their native places in various states.

Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal has announced that the total number of food distribution centres in the national capital will be increased from its current capacity of 500 to 2500 to ensure that poor and needy people can have easy access to food amid the COVID-19 lockdown. Reports suggest that over 1000 people from Nizamuddin (West) area have been shifted out to avoid further spread of the Coronavirus infection among the people. Nizamuddin West are in South Delhi has emerged as a hotbed of COVID-19 positive cases in the National Capital. The area which houses the headquarters of Tablighi Jamaat in Nizamuddin West hosted a religious congregation in mid-March which was attended by several people from different states as well as guests with foreign travel history. Media reports indicate that Nine Indians who attended this congregation i.e. six in Telengana and one each in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka have died of COVID-19. In addition to this one Filipino has also succumbed to Coronavirus infection while 19 other foreigners have tested positive. Currently, close to 285 people from Tablighi Headquaters in Nizamuddin West have developed mild symptoms for COVID-19 and are admitted at Lok Nayak Hospital.

The death toll in US due to Coronavirus pandemic rose above 3000 mark with the country registering 540 on Monday. According to reports, the death toll currently stands at 3,017 and is expected to grow rapidly considering the large number of COVID-19 patients who are in intensive care. Meanwhile, New York got a 1000 bed US Navy hospital ship as a ray of hope to counter the Coronavirus cases in the city. US Navy ship Comfort, which has been converted into a hospital will treat non-coronavirus patients, including those who require surgery and critical care, taking the burden off the hospital network of the city.

On Monday, India recorded its single highest spike in 24 hours of COVID-19 positive cases with 226 fresh cases being reported from across the country. The total number of positive cases in India rose sharply to 1251 while the Dealth toll grew to 32. The 1251 positive cases include, 1117 active cases and 101 recovery cases.
