Coronavirus Highlights from 7th April: No Decision on extension of Lockdown yet, says Health Ministry

Coronavirus Live Updates: With number of COVID-19 positive cases in India rising to 4421, India’s Coronavirus curve continues to rise steeply. Along with rising cases, the Death Toll has also grown to triple digit figures and current stands at 114. India reported 479 fresh infections on Monday which is slightly lower as compared to the previous day. In India, PM Modi has directed cabinet ministers and other departments to design a ‘business continuity plan’ which can be implemented after the lockdown is lifted on 14th April 20022. Globally, the Coronavirus pandemic continues to wreak havoc as governments scramble to put together a comprehensive plan to contain the disease. UK British PM Boris Johnson, who had earlier tested positive for the Coronavirus, has now been moved to intensive care as his symptoms continued to persist.

    1 Lakh COVID-19 Tests Done So far in India: ICMR

    Giving an overview of the testing mechanism,  the Indian Council of Medical Research informed media persons that 1,07,006 Covid-19 tests have been done till date. The Council Spokesperson also informed that 11,795 tests were conducted on Monday of which 2,530 were done by private laboratories. ICMR also confirmed that currently, 136 government labs and 59 private labs have been given permission to conduct COVID-19 Tests.

    3 Types of Facilities to tackle COVID-19 Cases

    Health Ministry also briefed media about the three primary types of medical facilities that are being developed to handle COVID-19 cases in India.

    1. COVID Care Centres: Suspected cases and potential carriers who exhibit very mild or mild symptoms will be sent to COVID Care Centres
    2. Dedicated COVID Health Centres: Patients who are exhibit moderate symptoms will be sent to dedicated centres where they will be monitored closely
    3. Dedicated COVID Hospitals: Severe and Critical Care Patients will be admitted to dedicated hospitals designed for COVID-19.

    4421 COVID-19 cases in India, 354 Reported in Last 24 Hours: Health Ministry

    Health Ministry in its evening briefing said that total 4421 COVID-19 cases have been reported in the country so far. Of the total number, 354 fresh cases have been reported in the last 24 Hours. On a positive note, the number of people who have fully recovered from COVID-19 has also increased to 326.
