odisha board class 12 exams

The Odisha State Government School and Mass Education Minister Samir Das have stated that the government is reportedly set to either cancel the unfinished portion of the annual Higher Secondary Examination (class 12) or conduct the examinations only for the important subjects.

He said that the decision regarding conducting the examinations for the class 12 students will be made only after the lockdown ends, adding that discussions were underway for possible options. Two examination papers from the class 12 arts and science streams are remaining along with a number of papers of the vocational education subjects. He also added that since the country is going through a difficult situation a decision has to be taken keeping in mind the future of the students.

The Council of Higher Secondary Education postponed the class 12 board examinations which were scheduled to be conducted after March 23, 2020. The class 12 board examinations began on March 3, 2020, while the vocational examinations commenced on March 17, 2020. The subjects for which the examinations are yet to be conducted include Biology, Economics, Sociology, Statistics, Cost Accounting, and Business Management.

Parents, however, are of the opinion that the cancellations of the unfinished examinations are not a good idea. One of the parents said that the examinations of the important subjects including Biology, Economics, Anthropology, and statistics have not been conducted and the government must make sure to complete the exams immediately after the lockdown ends.

The students have also voiced their opinion stating that they are not in favor of the cancellation of the examinations. They are of the opinion that the unfinished papers in the arts stream are all important and mark-fetching subjects. In case the government works out a particular evaluation formula many of the meritorious students may not get the desired marks which is why it is better to conduct the examinations.

The education minister has also added that the evaluation process of the class 10 examinations which are unfinished by the board due to the lockdown. He pointed out that the evaluation process will begin from May 1, 2020, and try to publish the results by June 15.
